I always wish I had a pocket recorder for those moments when lyrics just start going through my head..unfortunately even if I repeat them over and over I usually forget them before they get written down. I at least get the jist of a song that way sometimes.

Honestly most the songs I've personally written just happen when I'm playing the guitar. I'll find a riff repeat it, then another part comes and there's a song. The words always come when I'm the shower or walking down the street.
I've co-written songs with other people, bouncing ideas of each other when jamming. And again the words come to me in the shower or walking down the street. I've tried sitting down and writing lyrics but I just ended up walking off to have a cigarette and hang out with the dog or listen to some music.

We usually write as a band. Either I will have most of the music in my head already or I'll have a couple riffs that I have been working on and we will play one over and over until the singer starts to find his words. Once we have a verse or two then we try to make some changes. Organize and mapping comes next. Then we usually record it so we can listen and come up with more ideas. The song on my page Do it is the rough recording about ten minutes in. I had an Idea of changing the chords in the chorus after the second verse. Probable after listening to a bunch of early Sonic Youth. We are about to re record it with a drum track that I just finished. Let me know what you think.
All these surf bands back in the day were playing and recording the same songs over and over. often in very similar style. But some versions are totally different. I'm gonna make some definition of well chosen surf songs.
Miserlou - Dick Dale, The Surfaris, The Astronauts, The Lively Ones, The Trashmen, The Beach Boys.
Must say Dick Dale is the winner. Most extreme fasted, the piano loop in the end, fucking perfect.
I would say The Surfaris came # 2 but Beach boys lay on the bottom.
Pipeline - The Chantays, The Ventures, The Astronauts, Dick Dale(with Steve Ray Waughn)
The Chantays version is the best version of my opinion but The Ventures take it gently. The version with Dick Dale and the fuckhead Steve Ray Waughn is a disaster.
Baja - Al Casey, The Astronauts, The Lively Ones, Jack Nitzsche
It's a hard one. All versions are amazing but I think The Astronauts have the win.
Batman Theme - Nelson Riddle, Neal Hefti, The Ventures, Link Wray
Also a hard one. But I think The Ventures is the best.
Moon Dawg - The Gamblers, The Ventures, Davie Allan, The Beach Boys, The Surfaris
I like the Davie Allan version most myself but they are all great.
sorry about my gramma. You surfers out there discuss your favourite surf tracks...
Yeah thanks to Mal Thursday, I also got an MP3 from Victoria de Mare from Amazon. If it weren't for these podcasts my music would be a lot more boring.
I just got my mp3 of this song, and it sounds great:) I guess Little Steven can't be all that bad if he hires Kim Fowley as a DJ and allows him to play an artist he's helping to develop (BTW, that's just some good natured ribbing. I'm not looking for a fight).
The Clash's first two albums were both great.
X - Los Angeles
Richard Hell and the Voidoids - Blank Generation
Teenage Head - Teenage Head
The Damned - Damned Damned Damned
Dead Boys - Young, Loud and Snotty
The Saints - (I'm) Stranded
X-Ray Spex - Germfree Adolescence
Buzzcocks - Singles goin Steady
The Jam - In the City
I want to include the Zero Boys but they were second wave.
Haha, thanks man! Yeah, I guess the "Euroblood" you mentioned is the reason for this treason. Can't get it out of my system, hehe. :)

most my friends here in Europe write 'life' instead of 'live', since the Vs and Fs sound the same. it's perhaps just your Euroblood trying to poke it's little head through your post!! :)

Hi , hey I had not heard the Readies so I checked their myspace, that shit ROCKS and I want more. Anyone have some they can send over to me, even a couple of tunes, or know where there is more posted? I will def. be on the lookout down here in the swamp and when I'm back up in the Detroit area visiting for live shows. Do they have a CDs out?
Check out my "Kitchen Grease."
I've cooked up some hot and greasy sounds this month in his bitchen Kitchen of Doom. Too many cooks won't ruin this musical stew. Contributing their magic ingredients are Simon Stokes, Nobunny, Dan Melchior, Don Covay, The Mekons, The Legendary Stardust Cowboy, Sleepy John Estes, The Persian Claws, The Purple Merkins, Key Frances and so many more. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. But don't slip on the grease.
I’m Mr A the Barber and this is vol. 30 of YOU GOT GOOD TASTE.
The plan for this show was not to follow a theme, but as I started choosing some tunes something just happened, So I guess you'll all have to wait till next time to get a sneaky peek into Mr A's trashy tastes as I still plan to put together a non themed show real soon.
As for this show it's gonna be 100% no holds barred red hot rockabilly all the way, I thought I'd let the other GaragePunk podcasters give you your injection of garage trash leaving it to me to fill your ears with something a bit more primeval and wild.
Don't forget to visit me and all the other podcasters at
GaragePunk.com and be sure to subscribe to all the GaragePunk podcasts. You'll also find me peddling my trash on Facebook, just go to www.yougotgoodtaste.com and you'll find all the links you need.
Right, now it's time for me to personally administer you a lesson in how to get "Cheap Thrills and Warm Chills"
I hope it works for you!
