Billy Childish has written some sort of unfathomable amount of killer songs. He's amazingly prolific, and while I can't say I love every single record but I'd say about 85% is killer. One of my favorites will always be"Wiley Coyote" because we used to close Quasi-men sets with it and it was a crowd pleaser and my drummer could do one hell of a childish voice. Where I think Childish really excells is his honesty that he puts into his songs even when it's contradictory. A very personal example would be the awesome song "The day I beat my father up"

My favorite bands of his are Thee Mighty Ceasers, The headcoats / headcoatees / and the buff Medways.
For somebody getting in to him I would strongly suggest the Elementary headcoats record

heres a few other songs of his I love

      You make me Die
Double Ax (famously covered by The Mummies)
Come Into My Mouth (headcoatees covered nicely by the smears on there in the garage lp for Dionysus)
I wasn't made for this world
      I Don't Like The Man I Am

and if course the best song title in his catalog

I've been fucking your daughters and pissing on your lawn

If your a band and need to fill out your set, look at learning a Kinks song. So many great ones, I love "Who'll be the next in line".

    • I'm not the biggest Stones fan in the world but I'm gonna have to go with "Beast of Burden." There is something about the way Mick Jagger says "Pretty, pretty girls..."

I liked the early Stones. My favorite is probably, "Get Off of My Cloud" "Gimme Shelter" and "Can't You Hear Me Knockin'" Pretty good too, tho, I have never really been a Stones Fan or even The Who for that matter. Played out.
Just to digress a little I've been told by a member of Derek's Accent that their music style was heavily based on The Who. Makes sense when you think about it!

    • No idea. He just emailed me one day last June ('09) and said he decided to end it. He said he might pick it up again some day on his own blog, but I don't know what blog that might be. This was long before we switched the GPPN over to the Hideout, by the way. He's also no longer a member of the Hideout (some other guy named Nick who joined recently has his old profile URL now). Go figure. You can still find his old episodes here.

    • What happened to this show???

It seemed to have dropped off the network once we switched to the Ning format, without any mention from the host (Nick?)

This was by far my favorite show! I loved the focus on flower-freakout-fuzztone psych tunes!

      Bring the paisley back!!

    • I dunno, is it just me, or do I not wish that I had written other people's songs? If you like 'em, just cover 'em, it's garage rock... These songs are our patrimony, dammit, for being the only people who care about 'em!

    • "It's Been A Long Journey" by the Roots.
