I just wanted to ask if anyone else thinks that "Krave On!" by the Medway band The Kravin' "A"s (featuring Glenn Prangnell and Bruce Brand) is one of the best Garage Beat albums ever. I really do think so: melodic, soulful, groovy, but dirty enough.

Yeah, Atari Teenage Riot really rock! I liked anthrax back then, but kinda lost track. But "Caught in a mosh" still is pretty cool. Does anyone remember Sacred Reich? "American Way" from "Surfing Nicaragua" still is one of my favourite metal songs.
Cathedral is something I'd rather listen to nowadays. Back then I was more into the faster stuff. Must check them out soon. I kind of ignored the whole doom thing as a kid, but coming from Sunn O))) and Earth and so on I'm slowly starting to discover that stuff.

Yeah Doc, loved Carcass at the time, but even better (and slower) imho were Cathedral. And how about 'Impact is Imminent' by Exodus - that rocked! Did anyone say Anthrax?? And as crossover bands go Atari Teenage Riot (punk/thrash/techno) were awesome...!!

Since I totally fell for this album during my holidays, I just want to add Harvey Milk's "Life ... The Best Game in Town" and especially the opening track "Death Goes to the Winner" to the metal/noise etc. discussion here. Soooooo great!

I really love their outtakes album Metamorphosis, esp. "Sleepy city" and "I'd much rather be with the boys".

"Citadel" for this fierce hammer-on-anvil-sound on one channel.

"Dandelion" for its beauty and its distorted but still sweet guitar.

"She's a rainbow" for this great piano sound that I love since I was a little child.

"Wild horses", because it always gives me chills, no matter how kitschy it may be.

"Angie", see above.

"Under the boardwalk", because it's supposed to be a summer song, but to me always sounded like something dark and melancholic.

This is a great discussion by the way. I was reading in my local paper (for Vashon, WA) that they cancelled the high school prom due to low ticket sales. Why low ticket sales? Because the school banned grinding, which isn't even dancing as far as I'm concerened. I can't understand how it is that kids can't learn real dancing, even Washington DC go go styles. I'm starting to think that watching Shindig and Hullabaloo should be a school requirement.

60 days in jail for trespassing, 58 suspended - on probation for six months; had to get pardoned later in the '60s by Vermont's governor so they could hold jobs... didn't get back together because being underage, parents sent them off to college - this was '62 mind you, rock was still the devil's music! Mike reformed the Ravens immediately with new members - you can hear their one stab at rock n roll immortality on the above website's "Oobie Doobie Do," which was unreleased at the time (I found the master tape in 2004)... after he left, that band morphed into the Thunderbolts and did a nice Brit Invasion style 45 called "Heart So Cold" - recorded around the same time as the Beau Brummels first sides, although it wasn't released until mid-'65. The original Mike & The Ravens did get back together 45 years after their last 45 to record - don't shudder: Chuck Eddy of "Billboard" named their album to his Top 100 Albums list of 2008.
