    • I can help out with Fortune Teller. It's on 60s Downunder Vol 2. on Raven. The tracklistings of all 4 volumes are at: 60s Downunder if you want to check whether there are other tracks on there that you might want. I know I've got something by the D-Coys but don't have it to hand. Will let you know if it's what you're after.

    • I'm always interested in trading music. Should anyone be interested in trading tracks, I am looking for "That Is Life To-day" by Derek's Accent, "Leaving Here" by D-Coys, "Say Hello to Me" and "I Love You So" by the Moods, and "Fortune Teller" and "Turn My Head" by the Throb. I'm in the process of uploading my collection to iTunes, but would happily send you a list of what I have up there so far (mostly rare 70s punk at this point, but 60s stuff is gradually going up there), plus a list of my CDs.

    • Gotcha. I'll be keeping an eye out for additions here and here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_music_genres Looking forward to the undiscovered genre gems. Sorry I have none. I always wanted to hear a band play in a real cave though. Definitely can rock out to weird African Tribal rhythms, but can only tolerate Russian folk music (certainly not to be confused with Russian doom metal) in limited doses unless I'm the one singing it torturing others -- then I can stand on the rooftop all night. My first taste of this was at church masses spoken & sung in Russian Ukranian followed up by God awful stuff that made me cringe. The only redeeming factor was the fact that it was unheard and very different from what I like/d. Think the Russians, for me, are better off just doing drinking songs. Radio Moscow would probably not be a station I'd frequently turn on. It's funny talking about metal though, too, because alot of countries NOW, are really known for that industrial, dark sounding music and it's really, really hard to find what rocks me there. Way back, especially Communist countries, would probably pique my interest with the stuff they weren't allowed to play inspired by U.S. bands - with a Russian (for instance) take on songs. I like that certain music being restricted (not that this is a good thing at the core) was the catalyst for an underground hub which is where the nuggets I'd like to hear, but never have, hide. Now I'm curious to see what will surface. What about Yiddish?

    • i'm not saying i've heard it all, but i'm ready for more... and I'm just talking plain good stuff, music that rocks ya a little but in a new unheard of style... North African Metal, you know?

    • I don't think it's possible to hear it all in a lifetime.

There's other continents if you've exhausted this one. Many genres. French Ye Ye, Singapore, Mexicali, Australia, Germany...

To be able to hear it all is an illusion. Use Your Illusion. Which reminds me, I can boast I've heard all Guns N Roses albums since Appetite For Destruction.

    • Howdy Folks...

I think the part I really like about this community is that we have a pretty focused taste in music, surely based around garage punk. But damn, I've been listening to '66 garage since I was a kid. And I've been around the block and thought I heard it all. SO, in this day and age i am still digging in record bins looking for eras of lost styles from Surf to Blues to Country to Swing to Psych to Punk to Trash to whatever...( i could keep going on here )

My point being, Is there any cool undiscovered stuff?? Have we heard it all?? Weird African Tribe records or Russian Folk music has been turning me on so much lately because I NEVER HEARD IT BEFORE!! I would love to turn you on with my records via Sonic Nightmares radio show here at GaragePunk.com so if you think you might have something tasty, i dunno, some cajun hillbilly soul music or something, post it here in this discussion so we all can take a leap into some muddier waters. We all deserve it, so put on your thinking caps and let's blow each others minds... and hopefully stop talking about the new Guns N Roses release...

    • The new Dirtbombs is their weakest yet, and I sure hope the new Fuzztones is better than their Gutter Island show - by far the worst gig of the year.

Eddie Current Suppression Ring is way too good to be considered rigid garagewank.

    • Haven't heard it yet. Eddie Current Suppression Ring? Not purist garagerock, but this record (suggested by my friend Ed with excellent taste!) has held considerable time on my turntable.

    • I forgot to mention the horny new album by The Fuzztones. Anyone else here like that? swt said:

Actually I'd argue it's been a pretty good year. I've really enjoyed the 2008 albums by the Dirtbombs, The Fleshtones, Los Peyotes, The Hollywood Sinners.

    • I agree with Kopper...I hate this shit. But I also agree with Gringo Starr and the criteria he wrote that defines "rock and roll" (very diplomatic Gringo) and if some "hard rock" fits into that criteria for some of you, then listen to it.
When I was in high school back in the day (I'm Old!), all of my "friends" were into Deep Purple, Sabbath and Grand Funk. I hated that shit and thought it was stupid and pandered to stupid people who needed to be pandered to. Creem made fun of 'em! Now I kinda like those bands, mainly because they're stupid. Go figure!
In the 80s and 90s when a lot of these bands mentioned were at their peak of poularity, I used to love to watch MTV with the sound off. When a video for a "hard rock" or hair-metal band would play without any sound, all that was left was their ridiculous macho visuals and cum faces and rock-god poses. In other words, all that was left was all the reasons these bands and this kind of music sucks and will always suck. Corporate Rockstar dreams for 12 year old boys to buy at the local mall. "Edgy" and "dangerous", yet safe enough to be sold at Wal-Mart. Nice!
Everybody has some skeletons in their musical closets. Lets' trot them all out and make fun of one another because we have different tastes than the thing that brought us all here. Man, that sounds like FUN and a great way to be "punky". Or "hard rock-y".
Ultimately, unless you're being nostalgic for your younger days, why listen to this shit when there is so much GREAT stuff to listen instead of it?

    • I like alot of Jenslowcut's listed bands, but I'm not sure they represent the hard rock in the original post. Budgie is great stuff to put on in the car driving with the windows down on a hot night. But I think most people would call this stuff Heavy Metal (which, I think, some did in earlier posts). If I remember right doesn't Om + High on Fire = Sleep?

Point is I think Heavy Metal in the likes of those fuzzy bands take alot more from garage stuff than what we typically think of as hard rock, which is neither hard, nor rocks.

2008 ...the year GaragePunk can't relate... "Hard rock" sucks ...if I want to be surrounded by cheap rock regalia and pay thru the nose fer a burger ...now Planet Hollywood... nevermind.

    • There's a lot of bad hardrock, and there's a lot bad garagerock (2008 has been an all time low for garagerock, hardly listen any new garagerock anymore cuz it's sooo boring and bland). The hardrock haters mostly confuse hardrock with lame 80s hairmetal, which is like calling Stokes or Vines for garagerock. Here's some names I dig:

      New hardrock:

Witchcraft, Graveyard, Dzjenghis Khan, Five Horse Johnson, Orange Sunshine, Tonight, Endless Boogie, Hidden Hand, Om, Sleep, Electric Wizard, Birds Of Maya, Mammatus, Dollhouse, High On Fire.

      Old stuff:

Pentagram, Bang, Highway Robbery, Crushed Butler, Buffalo, Sir Lord Baltimore, Budgie, Leaf Hound, Flower Travellin Band, Jericho, Toad, Third World War, Human Instinct, Thin Lizzy, Trouble, St. Vitus, Angel Witch.

Way more exciting than most new cleancut mod wannabe yuppies wearing matching suits.

But anyhoo, fuck hardrock and garagerock, cuz Human Eye's "Fragments Of The Universe Nurse" and Digital Leather's "Sorcerer" are the two best albums of the year!

    • Hey you all!

I'm a bit bored, why not email me the bands and labels that I should have featured on my website?
The address is evert {at} grunnenrocks (.) nl

Make the subject of the email "10001 (or more) bands fest" and you'll take the definitive risk of getting a Gories teeShirt and at least 11 7"es ...

    • Anybody know these?

    • November 28, 2008 3:57 PM CST
    • They don't respond to emails and the sites haven't been updated in almost a year... does anyone have contacts for either band's booking agents (or are they being managed by the same people)?

I need to get in touch re. possible show bookings this spring.

      Thanks!

    • Any advice fer how to go about gettin' labels/bands to consider you as a reviewer? I've been asked very rarely in the past when I did a radio program to review recordings for labels and now that I have a proper blog I'd really dig a steady flow of review material comin' my way so I can add more content to my blog...
