The Best Gospel/Garage/Punk Band In Some Time!
So I went to a show in Fullerton CA and saw this band Death Hymn Number 9 and they fucking killed it. They have no singer but they wig the fuck out when they play!!! They sound like they grew uo in a gospel church but were spin'n punk/garage at home. Shits fucking AMAZING!
I found them on myspace, here's their link.

I am one podcasting motherfucker. I'm still learning this fine art. I put my first one together from an old radio show I did a couple of Halloweens ago. Check it out at http://steveterrell.blogspot.com/2008/10/my-first-podcast.html
Hi Tim,
What type of sound were you looking for? We people could probably go crazy with suggestions.
Any suggestions for an intro to great girl groups? Thanks!
Pulling some of her greatest off youtube. Even now, she is still one of the greatest female performers ever. What's your favorite?
1964 Can't Believe What You Say
1964 Goodbye, So Long
1966 River Deep, Mountain High
1968 You Got What You Wanted
1968 Cussin', Cryin', Carryin' On
1969 Crazy About You
Just had friends round, and we had to put on"Stomping At The Klub Foot Vol 1"
Then this led to "Loan Sharks" by Guana Batz, then "Do you feel restless" by Restless
and finally "The men with the golden guitars" by Thee Milkshakes
What a rockin good nite.

For main stream stuff, there are a lot of good girl groups comps that you can normally find digging through the buck bins. They usually chock full of groups like the Shangri-Las, Shirrelles, Ronettes, Crystals and Angels.... All of whom are in the same vein, but the Shirrelles and the Ronettes are my personal favorite. A lot of the motown stuff is pretty great too... The Supremes (Before Diana Ross became the vocal point), Marvelletes and Martha and The VAndellas are can't miss records.
Hey...can anyone suggest great '60s-'70s girl groups? I've never really jumped into that genre...thanks!
Tough one, but one has to be seeing the Knoxville Girls for the 1st time @ the Middle East in Cambridge, MA around '99-'01....Andre Williams & The Sadies were supposed to headline, but Andre bailed. No worries cuz the Knoxville Girls rocked out for an hour and a 1/2, and blew the full house away. Jerry Teel and Kid Congo surpassed everyone's expecations. Great topics!
What are your most memorable gigs and why?
yeah that looks BADASS got one? Sumiji said:

Oh man... My favorite is likely to change every time you ask me. Here are some likley #1s:
The Cynics: Rock N Roll
The Seeds: Self Titled
Question Mark & The Mysterians (Both Cameo LPs)
Thee Headcoats: Beach Bums Must Die
The Nomads: From Zero Down (I think that's the title. The one that came out on Crypt in the 80s featuring the 60s Band. I could probably pick )
Kinks: Self Titled & Something Else
ok, here's the song uploaded.....
That link is somehow incorrect :(

How lame can Chicago be? I've been DJing somewhat regularly for close to a year, playing Garage and Garage-Punk nights in one extremely "hip" neighborhood and in one neighborhood known for the incredible numbers of people in search of nightlife. Strangely, I haven't made any friggin' progress in repeat audience members. The only people who compliment me on what I play (besides the two or three friends who show up in support) are usually the wait/kitchen staff, who never get to sit out and listen to the music for more than 5 minutes at a time.
I've tried flyering, MySpace, CraigsList, and anything I can with my limited budget. Anyone got any bright ideas on getting people to go to my garage DJ nights in a digital age?
The listener to comment ratio is all wacky!
The majority of folks that leave comments for the podcasts, are other GaragePunk Podcasters!! No offense to y'all (the couple, or so) that do leave comments; but what gives? Is it too much of a pain? Do we need to make it simpler to leave feedback? Do you not care? Do you care, but believe that your comments don't matter much? Can't really be arsed? Been planning on getting around to it, but forget? Other reasons? As those great philosophers Tupelo Chain Sex axed: What is it?!
