Yeah -- that was A) really f'in' stupid (misses a great band and what? They paid for it, right?) and B) it was an awesome performance by the one and only Daddy-O Grande.
Hanging is too good for those people. *huff*

NOPE , THO' A NOTICEABLE PORTION OF THE AUDIENCE LEFT DADDY - O GRANDE'S COMBACK SHOW AT FITZGERALD'S IN BERWYN , ILL. , AFTER BIG SANDY PLAYED. FOR THAT , THEY SHOULD HANG.

Adding Takeshi Terauchi to my list...totally fits my love for the East meets West thing.
The Ventures
The Astronauts
The Lively Ones
Link Wray
The Surfaris
The Chantays
Shadowy Men from a Shadowy Planet- great
Also from Canada Huevos Rancheros, one of my favorites! "Shadow of Apache"

The Aqua Velvets

My favorite band of all time would have to be the Tiki Men from Sacramento. Probably because I saw them so much and wore out the grooves on 12 Dust Diamonds
Top three bands:
Tiki Men
Aquamen
Bomboras
Top three Songs:
Close To Champagne
Beauty is the Mind
Peach Fuzz
Satan's Pilgrims are good, and I love The Bomboras. My newest favorite is The Route 66 Killers.
Crimson Ghosts are fun, too.
Another great "landlocked" surf band is The Delstars from Iowa (Des Moines, I think). There are a couple of their tunes on my "Landlocked & Loaded!" compilation album that I put out 11 years ago:

Oh and I LOVE the SURFITES!!!!
Satan's Pilgrims!
Los Straitjackets (although they describe themselves as Guitar "Instrumentalists" rather than a surf guitar band)
SEÑOR BIKINI.
Yeah, that Jackie & The Cedrics clip is a modern classic!
Sorry for my relatively long list above. If I had to pick just 5 bands, I would probably go with The New Dimensions, The Astronauts, The Super Stocks, The Surfaris, and Jan & Dean.
And in addition to my original list which is mainly made up of bands that released at least one album, one should also not forget that there were loads of bitchen 1st wave surf groups that only put out a 45 or two on small labels.
Some surf bands I like to name just a few...
The New Dimensions
The Trashmen
Jan & Dean
The Astronauts
Dick Dale
The Super Stocks
The Beach Boys
The Centurions
The Surfaris
The Original Surfaris
The Pyramids
The Sentinals
The Surf Teens
The Chantays
Ronny & The Daytonas
Eddie & The Showmen
The Ghouls
The Silly Surfers
The Crossfires
Dave Myers & The Surftones
The Fantastic Baggys
The Thunderchiefs
The Mobsmen
The Reluctant Aquanauts
The Ghastly Ones
Satan's Pilgrims
And all you fans of The Ghastly Ones might dig our brand new 45 which has Baron Shivers on lead vocals for the A-side:
Eight Ball Scratch
The Apemen
etc.
The Bomboras and The Ghastly Ones!
I wouldn't say that the Dum Dum Girls are surf. They're more indie pop and lo-fi.
As of right now, I'd have to say the Tomorrowmen because the lead guitarist is going to give me guitar lessons. The Trashwomen, because Elka just sent me a signed TW record on which she declares her love for me. The Phantom Surfers because I love how Lo-Fi they sound.
All time would have to be Dick Dale, Eddie and the Showmen, and the Ventures.
**I freakin love the surfcast we need more!!!
Leopold Kraus is GREAT and will fit into surf/60s instro, the Killer Bananazz had there final concert short-ago,will miss them for sure...
Dum Dum girls are unknown to me,I will trace them.
Alohas.
Past and/or present, it's all good :)
