Everybody hates the daily grind. Some people hate it enough to sing about it. Mojo Nixon for instance has "Ain't Got No Boss," The Pleasurelegience," and a host of songs about drinking and recreational drug use. What are your favorite songs about shirking responsibility, and just basically takin' 'er easy like The Dude would do?

Bonniwell Music Machine - Take Time Out For a Daydream. A rare Pop - oriented song by the late , great Sean Bonniwell , but , an effective one.

LIGHTHOUSE - SUMMER DAYS , Hardly my favorite , but it gets the laziness vibe down pat.

Troggs - Summertime (Not "When the gIrls wear the dresses so low....wish you were here , The Miller Beer Ads. )  ,  I'LL BUY YOU AN ISLAND , and yes , SUMMERTIME (YOU CAN SEE THE SUN ON THEIR T-T-T-T-T-T-TANNED SKIN.....).

Mungo Jerry - In The Summertime  (Of course. Back when singing about drinking and driving and taking advantage of rich and poor girls aliKE could land you an international top ten).

Hanoi Rocks - Malibu Beach Nightmare (No too takin' er easy , but , the perfect summer song.).

The Pandoras had "I Live My Life" , obviously based on"Too Many People" by The Leaves ,but from a woman's point of view "I don't have to prove nuthin' to you. I don't have to talk or act like you ....Or wear a knee long skirt , to keep from getting hurt , or groom my shaggy hair , I don't see what you care. I live my life".

Well, if you're going the Clash route:

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZOrkPIZ1JU

I mean, it's a laundry list of jobs no one wants... :D One of the best songs about being unemployed/unemploy-able ever.

The Anthem for 70's Slackers was BTO's hit , "Taking Care of Business" , tho' it's actually about WORKING in an INDUSTRY "The Music Scene" , but , beating the 9 to 5.

The Clash tried to explain that , yes , they're in the BUSINESS , but not above having a beer and playing pool at the pub in "Cheapskates" and "All The Young Punks".

Well, the anthem for slackers and people who don't wanna work was "Longview," by Green Day.

"I sit around and watch the phone, but no one's calling
Call me pathetic, call me what you will
My mother says to get a job
But she don't like the one she's got"...

"16 Tons" Tennessee Ernie Ford. The ultimate working man's ballad. But , the only comeuppance is death.

"Take This Job and Shove it"- I prefer David Allan Coe's version , not Johnny Paycheck or The DKs. He did write it , after all.

Sorry . I like "Bang on The Drum All DAY " by Todd Rundgren.

John Entwistle - "Who In The Hell Do You Think You Are?"

JAMES BROWN- I DON'T WANT NOBODY TO GIVE ME NOTHING  (OPEN UP THE DOOR , I'LL GET IT , MYSELF.") . Brown was , inexplicably, called an "Uncle Tom" and a "Sellout" in his day , because he promoted Black Business , SOMETHING THAT NEEDED TO BE DONE. But slander did'nt affect him.He wanted others to have some of the breaks he had. "I'm not selling us out , I'm selling us IN". The Bad JB.

"'WE WANT TO WORK FOR OURSELVES , NOT FOR SOMEONE ELSE...... I FOR ONE  , AND MY SONS FOR ANOTHER , ARE'NT GONNA TAKE IT .....WHEN MAN HAS BURNED HIS FELLOW MAN. WE HAVE TO BE FAIR IN OUR BUSINESS DEALINGS. WE DON'T BURN ANYONE , AND NOBODY'S GONNA BURN US , SWEETIES."    JIM BAKER (FATHER YOD) YA HO WA.

Alison, I also checked out "How They Want Me To Be" by Best Coast. That one reminds me of "What Am I Gonna Do?" by Thee Sgt. Major III

Too Many People is a great Take 'Er Easy tune.

Too Many People - The Leaves (Deadmoon did a great version , too).

"And the last thing I'll ever do , to prove that I'm a man like you is work from 9 to 5 , tryin' to keep myself alive , and worry just because that's what everybody else does , and  concentrate my time tryin' to make myself a dime , and wear a suit and tie when I'd rather sit and die."

Lazy - Deep Purple.   Self - explanatory.

Teacher's Pet - "Then I got myself a real job. But , still I was a fucking slob. Killed my boss , he told me to get a haircut !" .........Then .....well , it gets better .

OH , "Teacher's Pet" was by GG Allin. I forgot to make a note of that.

"Then some asshole comes up to me , tried to tell me , "Whatcha doin' , fag?!" , well , I said "I don't care , you're a fucking drag ! You think you're so fucking cool ! You ain't SHIT , you can suck my tool ! ".......While most "Relevant" bands were talking about politics they did'nt even understand.....From the left AND the right.

5 to 9 by FIDLAR. Because nobody in the band has a 9 to 5. It's not exactly taking it "easy", but it is about shirking responsibility, drinking and recreational drug use.
