If you were going to make a mix to try and get someone interested in sixties garage bands what would it be? I did one for someone a while back it went something like this (the order means nothing):

      Blackout of Gretely - Gonn
Louie Louie - The Swamp Rats
      Psycho - The Sonics
The Girl Can't Dance - Bunker Hill
      Project Blue - The Banshees
Going All The Way - The Squires
Bad Girl - The Zakary Thaks
You're Too Much - The Eyes
Social End Product - The Bluestars
      Crawdaddy Simone - The Syndicats
      Filthy Rich - The Outsiders
Come See Me - The Pretty Things
Psychotic Reaction - The Count Five
      It's A Cry'n Shame - The Gentlemen
      Demolicion - Los Saicos

That's all I can remember right now. It was enough to fill up CDR though. Some of these might not be strictly "garage", but you get the idea. Mid-sixties mod, freakbeat, r&b, etc. The guy I did it for was into that emo/hardcore and generic indie type stuff. So what do y'all think?

I'd make you comps, no problem.  What is the easiest way to make a comp available to someone via the Web?

A few weeks ago I made a series of comps for a friend who is into electronic nonsense (ugh...).  Three comps, each with 22 tracks, for a total of 66, as in the year 1966.  Great, huh?  Anyway, this was my attempt to "convert" him to garage.  I titled my comps "Murky Mysteries From the Savage Sixties."  I'll post them here so you can see what I included:

The Troggs are considered , by many , to be the only true Garage Punk band Britain produced in The 60's. I had the pleasure of telling them,  once , that there are many of us who would like to adopt them as an American band. Of course , they were thrown back "WOT?! What's this, then?!". Sadly that'll never happen , and it does'nt look like Reg will ever menace the stage again. I HOPE I'm wrong , but , there's been no further info that I could find , since his diagnosis of Lung Cancer about a year ago.

I'm friends with Gregg Turner, former Angry Samoan. He told me years ago that The Troggs was one of his first big influences. I've heard him do a real nice "Love is All Around."

recently a young employee of the hip local record store asked me to get him up to speed with 60s garage (he's a local big honcho in the grindcore scene) - i have to say i was pretty taken aback - what a nice compliment! well since he has all the records he wants at his disposal, i told him to start with this: the troggs.

now he's got the fever and we email back and forth on a daily basis. just today he sent an frantic note, incredulous that i hadn't told him about "99th floor" by the moving sidewalks (we are in zz top country, afterall). of course i apologized profusely! ha!

....As performed by Lithium Xmas ...."Where are the children? The bible records have arrived !"

Seriously , tho, Nilsson's "Son of Dracula " has a great scene in a pub (Of course) with Harry singing "Jump Into The Fire" with Keith Moon , John Bonham , Peter Framptom (Before he came alive.)and probably some others.

We were also asked to come up with a garage primer, way before the Nuggets box sets were available (and it was on cassette because burning CDs was not yet an option).  Songs we included that haven't been mentioned yet..

Ain't No Friend of Mine - Swamp Rats

      Try It - Standells

      Shake - Shadows of Knight

      Milkcow Blues - Chocolate Watchband

What A Way to Die - Pleasure Seekers

You Burn Me Up and Down - We the People

Thoughts of a Madman - Nomads

Save My Soul - Wimple Winch

      Wild Man - Tamrons

      Action Woman - Litter

      I Hate You - Monks

      Tienes Algun Dinero - Shakers

      My Iconoclastic Life - Beech-Nuts

As easy as its become to pull these sorts of lists together and create a playlist on an iPod, I kinda miss the days of pulling out the vinyl, cueing up the track and hitting "record" on the tape deck and trying to figure out how to get maximum use of a side without cutting off a song.

Good list . At first , I thought ,  maybe too many fast songs for a novice , but , then you said they were into.....well , that stuff. Don't forget "7 and 7 Is" by Love and "1523 Blair "by The Outcasts , if you want your friend to hear some intensity that makes an ass out of Hardcore....Don't get me wrong , I liked some HC , to a point , but , I don't think it has the staying power of 60's or 70's Punk.

I'm friends with Gregg Turner, former Angry Samoan. He told me years ago that The Troggs was one of his first big influences. I've heard him do a real nice "Love is All Around." Rosa said:
recently a young employee of the hip local record store asked me to get him up to speed with 60s garage (he's a local big honcho in the grindcore scene) - i have to say i was pretty taken aback - what a nice compliment! well since he has all the records he wants at his disposal, i told him to start with this: the troggs.

now he's got the fever and we email back and forth on a daily basis. just today he sent an frantic note, incredulous that i hadn't told him about "99th floor" by the moving sidewalks (we are in zz top country, afterall). of course i apologized profusely! ha!

My first thought would be to burn the Nuggets Box Sets,1+2.Good selection of garage and an even better one of mod/beat/R n b.
If it was one tune for me it would be "Baby" by The Tasmanians.Four chords, fuzz guitar, weedy organ and the essential "my woman crapped on me" lyrics.

i know right! but count your blessings. working for a good record store would be like working for in-store credit! haha!

grindcore is a faster, tighter, louder hardcore. noisier than metal. but still low class enough to not be labeled post-rock. but don't quote me.

Dang, I wished I worked at a record store and had all the records I wanted at my disposal. Pardon my ignorance, but what is "grindcore"? Guess I could look it up.
