Got this in an email from Yep Roc Records:

Fleshtones set to release Take A Good Look on January 22

They were birthed at CBGB along with the Talking Heads, The Ramones, Blondie and Television. Their first video is in the permanent collection at MoMA. They shared a practice space with the Cramps in the 70s, tours and a label with R.E.M. in the 80s, and stages with everyone from James Brown to the Police. They've been making albums and touring the world for thirty years, and they're still under the radar.

But now it seems that their years of dogged perseverance might finally pay off. 2007 saw the release of Joe Bonomo's biography, Sweat: The Story of the Fleshtones, America's Garage Band. 2008 will see the releases of the band's tribute album Vindicated!, the film documentary, Pardon Us For Living, But the Graveyard Is Full, and the band's new album, Take a Good Look, which is set to release on January 22nd. Take a Good Look is pure Fleshtones, and bursting at the seams with fuzzy guitars and dance beats. Hipsters and shoe-gazers be damned, rock n' roll is a party and The Fleshtones just tapped the keg.

I agree it's an excellent release; I'm debuting it in my top 5 on tomorrow's radio show. You can always count on the Fleshtones whether it's live on on record.

Oh OK, I guess I was confused about the "i'm not at liberty to let others hear it" part.

Yeah, I was a bit let down by Beachhead, too. That's not to say there weren't a few good songs on it, but overall it wasn't as good as I'd hoped. Do You Swing? was much better...

Yep, that's how I heard it. Someone gave me the URL that took me directly to the 'Tones record. Dunno where I put it, though. Pretty sure it has something to do with the YepRoc Radio link, which seems to pick a record at random. I'm just not sure what the direct link is to the 'Tones record...Or even if that's the one that will come up if the randomizer chooses the Fleshtones.

Jim Diamond produced half of it in Detroit (Ivan Julian the other half in NYC) and his stuff sounds like Beachhead sonically. The Julian stuff is really junky and cool-sounding, too.

There was a Yep Roc promo site up for a while that was running the album in its entirety. Don't know if it was meant for the public at large or if it's still live. But, yeah, the album is pretty rockin'. Some great tunes.

A friend. Not sure I was supposed to have heard it, but I told Zaremba last weekend how much I liked it and he didn't seem bothered that I'd gotten my ears on it. That said, I'm not at liberty to let others hear it.
