Bob Carter (Dirty Wurds' Drummer) died this Wednesday from Lung Cancer. Reportedly , he was diagnosed in the final stages , and went instantly. Chicago's Dirty Wurds , who cut the immortal Punk Screamer , "Why" , had a revolving door policy , particularly regarding Drummers and Bassists , but, Carter is regarded as the best - known Drummer in the band , and remained friends with his former bandmates and their associates up to the time of his demise. Bob remained active in the Chicago music scene , playing Rock , Blues and Jazz.
After the Dirty Wurds broke up , preceded by several lineup changes , in 1970 , Carter played with a number of local groups , most notably The Mighty Blue Kings , who , regardless of your opinions , or mine , about their music , OWNED this town for about two years , late '95 - on. Carter was the only veteran musician in the original lineup , and his Jazz chops added authenticity tothe groups' Jump Blues stylings.
Carter also played Blues with my good friend , Rockin' Johnny Burgin (Joined at least once by Dirty Wurds' Rhythm Guitarist , Mike Peterson.) and was a fixture on the local music scene in recent years. He was also a real good cat , who will be dearly missed.
A memorial show is being held at Space in Evanston , Illinois , to defray funeral and medical costs. The Mighty Blue Kings will be playing a reunion set , Blues Guitarist ,Dave Specter and others will be appearing , plus , possibly , one in particular I'm not at liberty to divulge.
