Eddie Bertrand , Lead Guitarist for the early Surf/Instrumental groups , Eddie and The Showmen and The Bel - Airs , just passed away at the age of 67. There is'nt much more info at the time. Bertrand played Lead Guitar on hits like "Mr. Moto" and "Squad Car" (Still covered , in bitchen form , by Los Straitjackets.) , and commenced performing , again , during the largely California - based Surf music revival of the 80's , which briefly went nationwide in '95 with the popularity of "Pulp Fiction" , which resurrected the career of Dick Dale (Whose ego was already getting the better of him , after a few modestly attended , but savage tours.) , but did'nt do much to attract attention to other masters of the genre.
Bertrand kept performing in recent years , sometimes with the reformed Bel- Airs / Edddie and The Showmen (Largely the same group. A young Dick Dodd cut his teeth with both bands ,until an already - established local band called The Standells brought him in as Drummerand Lead Singer.).
