finally a new movie I liked: Låt den rätte komma in

  • yeah ... we bernese folks are slow, I know.
So it's no wonder, that it took so long untill I stumbled over this movie.
I like swedish/norwegian/finnish storytelling anyways. at least when it comes to movies, since I'm reading too little lately.
So, here's a flick I just saw, that freaked me out. The story (most parts at least) just kicks most of the asses of known vampire-stories. There's no romanticism within the description of the vampire in that movie. On the other hand you still kinda develop a sympathy for this cruel creature.

"Ginger Snaps" was the last Horror-Movie I kinda unexplainably liked as much as this one, and I watch quite a lot of Horror-movies, ... then again taste is to each one different.
The interesting thing about Horror-movies (and Sci-Fi) is,that I believe the Genre is allowed to describe an other/altered reality, without being nailed to "scientific facts". Describe reality out of a perspective you may find completely weird, or sick, or unrealistic ... and later you realise how similar to reality of everyday-life it is ... (think of Blade Runner, Brazil, They Live, ...)

"Låt den rätte komma in" is an independent swedish movie, based on the story of the Swedish writer John Ajvide Lindqvist. SOme call it a "romantic" movie. Hmm ... there are some cheesy parts, maybe. But when I really imagined the whole situation, I didn't find any romance in this, and in the ending of the movie either ... kinda like choking your laughter away if you really think it through.

Check it out, and tell me how you saw it ...
