    • Hi Todd, thanks for the suggestion!
We had the opportunity to do Nashville, but - you know - it is soo far from PA...

Thanks a lot anyhow. Hope to see you somewhere in the tour! ;)

    • We like Sebadoh, but we wouoldn't be able to get there until about 11:00.  Is it likely to sell out.  I don't know how big the Black Cat is or how popular Sebadoh still are.

    • Hey Dave, the bands playing the Station sound great! Need to go check that out. Thanks.

      Cool Philly venue links:

      PhilaMOCA

      Golden Tea House

    • Hey Mike:

The Improbables, The Scovilles, St. James and The Apostles (psyche,) The Midnight Beat, The GTVs, and Thee Shut Downs are a few.

No venues that really highlight garage, you just get a good show here and there. Watch The Station, JRs, PhilaMOCA. KFN and Johnny Brenda's for larger names.

    • Yes, they're really cool! I see Dry Feet is playing Kung Fu Necktie this September so I'll be checking that out.

Another great place for punk shows is JR's Bar.

    • Hello Everyone!

What Philly bands / venues does everyone like? Any venues you know of specifically highlighting garage punk / rock'n'roll?

Also, if you’re in a band: I’m always looking for garage / punk / surf / rockabilly groups to play shows with in the Philadelphia area. Send me a message with your band’s information!

    • As some already know, Alabama is currently seeing a huge surge in great Garage and Surf Bands. Well, someone has decided to document the current movement with a great 12" vinyl compilation.

The comp will include Daikaiju, Kill Baby...Kill!, Original Shake Charmers, Nightmare Boyzzz, Piss Shivers, Mouse Teeth, Nowhere Squares, Pine Hill Haints and many others.

The Kickstarter only has 7 days left and is oh so close to reaching the goal. 15 bucks reserves you a copy, and there are many other incentives above that donation level, including limited edition covers, colored vinyl and more.

    • RIVER CITY TANLINES (Memphis, TN)
      https://www.facebook.com/pages/River-City-tanlines/235354749133

"Memphis' River City Tanlines have a new album called Coast to Coast coming July 31st and it is a doozy, filled with rifftastic guitar-driven rock songs that incorporate 70s punk, proto garage rock and a big dose of southern boogie. Singer Alicja Trout is so prolific, what with running Contaminated Records, her recording studio and bands Alicja-pop, MouseRocket and Black Sunday that a new album from the Tanlines is a rare treat; this is the first since 2006. She is a veteran of Memphis bands Lost Sounds (with Jay Reatard), The Clears and many others, her bandmates Terrrence Bishop and John Bonds have performed with the likes of Jack Oblivian, R.L. Burnside, Jim Dandy & Black Oak Arkansas, and Monsieur Jeffrey Evans."

SCREAMING FEMALES (New Brunswick, New Jersey)
      https://www.facebook.com/screamingfemales

"Screaming Females' seven years as a band, four full-length albums and 700 globe-spanning live shows has made them difficult to miss. Through it all, the New Brunswick, New Jersey trio have continued to exude a frenetic energy which is built upon the zeitgeist of America's punk and indie underground yet has always remained forward-looking. Fittingly, for Screaming Females' 5th album 'Ugly', the band enlisted legendary recording engineer Steve Albini, famed for his unique ability to capture the ferociousness of a live performance while delivering gorgeous sonic clarity. The album's 14 tracks reaffirm the touchstones of the band; they can still shred and front-woman Marissa Paternoster can still unleash a powerful howl. But it doesn't end there. The album ushers in new explorations for the band, a truly remarkable feat considering their already prolific output. 'Ugly' has the perfect combination of raw energy and honed musicianship that produces the type of rock & roll which is still a force to be reckoned with."

      BOOM CHICK
      https://www.facebook.com/boomchickmusic

"Boom Chick is a big hit of surf-garage momentum and rock & roll from Brooklyn, NY. Boom Chick consists of Frank Hoier on guitar & vocals and Moselle Spiller on drums. Formed in September 2009, their sound is a reflection of their ecstatic love for early American rock & roll, surf guitar and country blues. Boom Chick’s amplified “Honky Tonk Surf Rock” brings you back to an era when people spoke their mind, yet delivers on all those things rock n’ roll promised us so long ago."
