Although I've been listening to garage and Nugget-y stuff for a long time, and although I've even been playing it with my own "rockin' post-teen combo" for a while, I'm not really aware of a "scene" in this part of the country -- I'm not too far from Columbia, SC.

 

Is there such a thing around here? Festivals? Record stores that carry this kind of music? Bands that might be interested in splitting gigs? Help ease my isolation.

Well, there aren't anymore tables left but they also don't like to accept "crafters". I guess they make exceptions but the page info says they like to maintain a balance between flea market and craft fair. It still sounds cool and I can always look into being involved at a later date.

Oh wow! that sounds awesome. I will have to check that one out. I just found out about one in Silver Springs, Maryland. It's a craft fair that runs from April to November every Saturday and its only $40 for a 10x10 spot. That is pretty cheap compared to some other craft fairs.

 

Thanks for the info on the Philly punk rock flea market. I have been looking for craft fairs in Philly... since it's so close it would be ideal. I am going to contact the city of commerse to see if they know of any.

Philly's Punk Rock Flea Market is this Sunday , not sure if there are still tables.  R5 Productions runs it.

I have no connections but if you don't have the Cat's Cradle in NC and Alley Katz in Richmond on your list, you should check it out.

My BFF and I are taking a garage rock road trip. I will be driving up from  Louisville, KY and she's coming in from Philadelphia, PA to see the New Bomb Turks on June 11 in Cleveland. We're pretty stoked, we're dying to make this our best punk rock road trip ever. Would any of you find folks point us in the way of good food, fun record stores and maybe somewhere to get a tattoo?

I am a big ol' hunka burnin' fan, too. Not only of the older stuff (Sun Records, Stax, Blues & Delta Blues, etc.), but of the garage-y stuff, too.

Memphis has, obviously: The Oblivians, Jay Reatard, Goner Records, the Hi-Tone and Buckaneer venues, and so much more. 

What are some other facets that can be added to the list of Memphis' garage rock jewels in the crown?
