not an expert on Vegas, but the Double Down Saloon used to have good shows sometimes. I think they probably still do.

The company I work for is sending me to a conference in Las Vegas for a week (Feb. 13-21) and I was wondering what I should look up or where I should go when I get there. Im not a big gambler so that part of Vegas is lost on me. Any bands playing, or good bars to hit? Where are the venues?

G train to Greenpoint Ave.
I have rediscovered lots of 45s I forgot I had.
The Vinyl/BBQ place is called Territory. its @ 534 N Hoover. Can't believe I haven't checked it out yet, but I will real soon. & yes Origami sucks. not only overpriced, but I found the selection lacking.
Most record shops in LA suck now. There are a few gems still out there:
Freakbeat Records in Studio City
Bagatelle Records in Long Beach
Penny Lane in Pasadena
Vinyl Records on Adams and Fairfax (mostly soul stuff)
The place next to the Echo sucks as does Vacation. Overpriced stuff.
Torrance is off the beaten path, but there is a store called Record Recycler that is freeway adjacent. Dirt fucking cheap used records.
Another great one is Bagatelle Records in Long Beach.
These are the kind of places where you have to do some digging, and frequent regularly if you want to score good shit. There are some great finds to be had at these spots.
Headline is my favorite place to by new records.
i don't even eat meat and i can still appreciate how amazing a record store/barbecue place is...i'll definitely check out all of those places. thanks for the recommendations howie and switch blade.
hank i went to headline last week and it was awesome. the guy who runs the place is so nice too.
Do you like songs about fast cars, mean girls and getting shit from the Man?
Do you consider the fuzz pedal to be the single greatest musical invention ever?
Do you like your music crude, snotty, and primitive?

this place is pretty good---http://markruschrecording.com
Get a hold of http://www.birdmanrecords.com/ David Katznelson is in S.F. but you can be specific about what you want to do and send him an email. Couldn't hurt, could it?
I have had nothing but bad luck with all the people I have contacted. Recording at home rules, but I would love to get some input from a tech or something who knows the garage punk sound.
Lookin' fer a getaway this winter, preferably to a great garagepunk show in cool place...send word!
We are outta Texas and we just recorded our 45 test pressing to mp3 so its available for download. Go to our page check it out and if you like---- look at the left column and see where it says The Mink Single for download???? -----Click there! Cheers to everyone on here and glad to be a part of a site so hungry for good music!
I went to Dave's Records, which I think was on Clark. The owner (Dave, I presume) was pretty nice and I found a couple of good records there. My general impression of Chicago record stores were that they were expensive, even compared to the ones I've frequented in NYC and Boston. The Reckless Records chain was pretty meh.... Probably about 80% of their stock was new stuff. That all said, I probably only hit about half the places I could have.
Quimbys books was pretty cool. I got a great Fantagraphics book about 30s-40s superhero comics. Myopic Books in that neighborhood was pretty good too... It had that used bookstore smell.
My band is going up to Chicago to record this weekend and I, too, would like to know if anything rad is going on there or where I should look. In response to Ken: I know that Quimby's bookstore is an excellent stop for great zines - as well as Chicago Comics. There used to be a pretty rad record shop on Clark Street near the Metro. But its been years... That area in general (Wrigleyville) is full of cool places.
HI,maybe we're too far to join a jam,but recently I bought "Boss Loop Station" that it won't
be my best friend of course, but I found it ideal to practice and improved. You can record
your own rhythm and play on it,'till 8 overdubs and got a drum clock too.
Cheers,have fun!
MECHANIQUE are long beach based!!!!mybe we can jam sometime!!!!

In Boston, you've got Harper's Ferry, Great Scott, The Middle East, The Paradise, Church, and TT the Bear's. They don't have rock 'n' roll every night, but they do have the right kind, when they have it.
