    • Yeah. Jim Heath is wearing a Goober cap on the third Reverend Horton Heat album , and in the "Psychobilly Freakout" video , now that you mention it , so it'd stand to reason that would
      be prime merch material.

It's weird how things like this pop up out of the blue after you start talking about 'em. I was just on Facebook and saw that one of my friends was wearing a Reverend Horton Heat button beanie. At first, I thought he'd just taken a patch and sewn it on one like I'd bought, but I did a quick Google search and found that the Rev is actually selling them on his site:

      http://www.reverendhortonheat.com/rants/2011/08/26/button-beanies/

Funny... his look *exactly* like the Kingpin beanie that I bought, but it has his patch sewn on it, and they're selling them for $38! Holy cow! That's some markup.

    • I've seen a few Hipster chicks wearing Goober caps , one was named Judy ! Judy ! Judy! , but , seriously , not enough to call it a movement. Yet.  Howard Morris was both the voice of Jughead , and Ernest T. Bass ,in the flesh.

    • Anybody reading the books in the 33 1/3 Continuum series? The ones I've read are:

The Kinks Are The Village Green Preservation Society

Piper At The Gates of Dawn - Pink Floyd

Tout Mask Replica - Capt. Beefheart & His Magic Band

Song Cycle - Van Dyke Parks

      Marquee Moon - Television

There's a pretty good variety in albums that are profiled in this series. What are your favorites?

    • I love my Lansdale, one of the all-time greats. I highly recommend "High Cotton" and "Bumper Crop", two of his finest short story comps.

As far as full-length novels go, check out "Freezer Burn", about a criminal hiding out in a creepy carnival, and "Sunset and Sawdust", about a female sheriff solving a murder (a dead baby buried in bubbling crude) a small hillbilly village. Killer stuff!

Also, if you're into that sort of thing, he's done a few audio book readings, but I didn't find his reading voice that intersting, but YMMV.

    • The show got cancelled because the venue got shut down the night before, but this was my art for the poster. My band was the Sky-Hi Heels and it was in Washington, DC.

I may be messed up and it may not be technically "psychedelic" but Ray Dennis Steckler's THE INCREDIBLY STRANGE CREATURES WHO STOPPED LIVING AND BECAME MIXED-UP ZOMBIES (1964) always makes me feel like I'm tripping when I watch it. The great cinematography by Vilmos Zsigmond and Laslo Kovacs has a lot to do with it, but the overall weirdness and super-color contribute to the psychedelic effect.

Another psychedelic fave of mine is William Rotsler's MANTIS IN LACE (also known as LILA) from 1968.

    • Try take it less seriously.

And don't make nitpicking comments. That alone will make it suck less.

El Topo and I Drink Your Blood are from the 70s. Try take it seriously. The old garagepunk board sucked at fringe cinema, the new one is far worse.

    • Jess Franco's 'Venus in Furs'--one of the greatest. I saw this tripping my face off on USB laboratory standard grade LSD--the kind that really DOES make you hallucinate!http://youtu.be/aH68fXg9rYM

Jess Franco made a lot of crappy movies but when he made a good one it was REALLY good. Great jazz, hot chicks, that whole euro-decadent feel...

    • This show is so great I'm going as Walter White this year for Halloween...and fug anyone if they don't get it. I'm about to run to the barber shop to get my head shaved.

    • That's actually a  good idea, although at the bar I go to most people probably wouldn't get the reference and think I was just some creep in leather hip huggers. Small towns suck.

    • Yeah , I'd recommend it. I'm not saying it's the best - written picture , nor even one of Romero's personal best , but it captures the mood of the early 70's , when the occult was almost in danger of replacing drugs and swinging in suburbia.

I'm midway thru "Santo in The Wax Museum". I had a bootleg copy , already , but , this is an official release I picked up in Mexico. It's one of the better 60's Santo movies , in Black and White , very atmospheric. It does'nt have English Subtitles , but , like most of these films , it's not hard to follow. A Mad Doctor makes his base in a wax museum , with statues of Mr. Hyde , Frankenstein's Monster , and real - life monsters like Joseph Stalin. The wax figures don't come to life , but he does turn two men into werewolf - like creatures to do his dirty work. For Santo fans , this movie has some of his best fight scenes , in and out of the ring.

Plus , he has a laboratory with a big TV monitor , so he can talk to the Police Commissioner (Or , whoever) . The reception is as bad as the TV in my kitchen , and it's pretty laughable when compared to the internet.....

I just watched "Season of The Witch" , a lesser known George Romero film from the early 70's. It starts out like a very messed up Avant Garge/Psychedelic Experimental Film ...Fortunately , it begins to develop a semblance of a story , just in the nick of time. What makes the movie interesting is that it could be called an early Feminist Horror Film (Maybe "Dracula's Daughter" was the first ?). It ties in with the Women's Lib movement without ever actually mentioning it.

A suburban woman , verbally and physically abused by her Husband , watches her relationship with her teenage daughter crumble , as the latter becomes involved with an older man , an arrogant , swaggering control freak who pleads sheer ignorance when his younger Girlfriend suddenly disappears. The girl's Mom , coincidentally , becomes fascinated with Witchcraft , after sitting in on an all - female Witches' circle.

The title track (Yes , Donovan's original. They probably spent as much , or more , getting the rights to use the song , then they did actually producing the film.)is used to great effect , as one sees the heroine  becoming all - knowing and all - understanding in the ways of witchcraft. THEN , she has some fun , getting back at her Husband and her Daughter's old man.......
