    • Hi, Thanks for the reply. Totally get what you say as per Beto's output. Nothing is tacked on, his output is very direct & we as readers are super lucky to be that close to the source. Thats the punk aspect innit? Sketch book immediacy. Recently read 'The Troublemakers' & found it nifty & explicicative of the whole B Movie trip he is currently rockin'. A great stand alone story (heres hoping David Lynch reads comics) but also glueing together the Love & Rockets stories of late. I love to enter that whole universe of the brothers world, find it amazing that the characters & their progeny just grow & grow. There is a great interview between Jaime and Gary Groth from Fantagraphics posted online recently ( i got it through L&R's Facebook page) worth an hour of your lives.
Other recent reads are the 'Johnny Cash - I See a Darkness' book by Reinhard Kleist. It is a familar & well trodden story with no real new revelations but beautifuly presented. Totally recommend it, he's obviously a fan with his idiosyncratic penmanship holding together the narrative beyond mere reportage. There are familiar & iconic images & events told with fresh eyes (& ears). The whole has a trippy, speedy celebratory feel to it without being indulgent or naive. Grand stuff.
Also 'Wilson' By Daniel Clowes. Nowt to say beyond read it, it's perfect. His story telling has never faltered & enjoyable to see his drawing style(s) become a tad more fluid & loose without losing the repessive tightness of the characters & issues he be dealing within.
That's me reviewed out. I've enjoyed Johny Ryans stuff previously & shall deffo check out your reccomendation. Also enjoying your own drawings posted up here. Basil Wolverton meets Charles Burns & then tells this lazy summation to fuck off.
Thanks for starting this discussion & heres hopin' others share our interests and join in.

      Cool!

I'm mostly on the PS3 these days. I hope to get into the Xbox sometime soon again, since I currently don't have one around. Don't know if you're up for that, but it would be cool to play online sometime, just let me know.

Well like dead rising 1, you gotta play it a while and get past all the annoying intro cut scenes. After you get past that stuff, it is fantastic!

I love left 4 dead and l4d 2. what gaming system do you use?

    • HA, yes! I was wondering if someone here dug that game!
I still have to get into the second one a bit more, so I have yet to decide on weapons. But the concept just screams awesome. I have only played the first briefly, but loved it of course - even though to some clunky parts.

Speaking of Zombies: Did you ever get to play LEFT 4 DEAD? I personally enjoy the "ZOMBIE island of Dr. Ned" in Borderlands, it's whacky and fun and has loads of brains to pick up.

    • Well put, Ms. Stixx! ;)

Henry Rollins played an important and respectful role in the ol' DC scene, and hipsters can sometimes def be annoying. But yeah, he came off as an idiot. I've seen him perform both with the band and spoken word and he can be quite an entertainer. But here, he totally made a fool of himself on camera (it is funny the effects of what putting a camera on someone will do to them). He made a few good points, but then he just dropped the ball. He's the punk rock curmudgeon.

    • hahaha! That's what I thought... he handled that quite well

Maybe the tattooed hippy bitch shouldn't have yelled over to him when he was being filmed? I'd have told her to shut the fuck up. Rollins was being polite if you ask me.

    • I wouldn't get so wrapped up in this, both parties are just mugging for the camera.

    • November 10, 2010 1:48 PM CST
    • It's not really funny, more cringe-worthy.
The 'Hipster' (?) chick shouldn't have really been mouthing off (for no apparent reason). To actually 'be' cool, one should remain cool - and not blurt out the obvious (in this case: "Henry Rollins is here!?!?").
Likewise Rollins probably shouldn't have engaged her in one of his 'I'm-gonna-assess-what-you-are-and-how-it-does-or-does-not-relate-to-me-personally' sessions.
About the only interesting thing in the whole vid (other than Henry's guest/date being excommunicated from Iran) is The Wipers track that is playing in the background. The song is 'Youth Of America' - now THAT'S ironic.

    • I like how he yells at that bitch, she is a hipster

    • November 10, 2010 7:25 AM CST
    • I can only fully agree on all that Ms. Stixx said.

    • November 10, 2010 6:15 AM CST
    • I suppose I have to defend myself here... I do agree Henry was being an asshole. Very self-righteous. However given where he came from and what he stood for in his younger years, I think it's really funny. He's basically picking on kids because he's all grown up and has figured out how the world works, while the kids in the video are not there yet because they're young. At the same time, it'd be naive to assume that none of the kids in that video weren't dressing the part, so in that sense, it was funny to see them get called out on it. Pretty much everyone in that video was ridiculous.

    • He doesn't know when to shut the fuck up and listen. He has no respect for anyone or anything and his rants are becoming ever less relevant.

The bullshit hoops that some of the old school expect people to jump through are ridiculous. No one has the right to Joe Strummer or Pink Floyd trust fund hipsters simply because they come from middle class families or went to uni. Why? because it's fucking disrespectful, and ignores everything that they have achieved based on social class.

Being a dick like that is almost funny in one of the videos linked on that site when he had greasy, floppy hair. But from a middle aged man who pretends to know everything, he could at least pretend to have learnt some manners along the way.

    • So yeah,

Some of my fave HORROR or quasi Horror themed games this generation:

DEAD SPACE! RESIDENT EVIL 5! DEAD RISING 2! CASTLEVANIA: LORDS OF SHADOW!

Then, then there's FALLOUT 3... not Horror but creeeeepiieee.

And then, sometime next year, we get SHADOW OF THE DAMNED, AND DEAD SPACE 2 of course.

Also, is anyone playing the super spooky SILENT HILL? Not me, that's for sure!

    • I'm sooooo on the fence on this one. First off I really am turned of by the whole "SO REALLY REAL MILITARY" thing in it. I wanna pla games 'cause they are trippy and un-real, not to go to war.
It has massive playability and loads of customization features, but damn, the community is a hard piece of shit to chew on mostly. I just don't like it when some features explode in a match (grenade spamming anyone?), just for the sake of being possible. Lot's of other things that people take advantage off, that makes it more annoying than great for me.

Shooters are a great genre, that's deeply weaved in the gene code of games, but I favor the exaggerated and ridiculous ones (in terms of art direction) to the hyper real. I thought a classy example of a great sci-fi shooter was KILLZONE 2. It's like a action flick, filled with gruesome detail and irony - but still wrapped in a greatly realized fictional world. But that's just my 2. Oh yeah: Activision just keeps on making poor choices, when it comes to creativity. It's one thing to lead a company well and make your money back with profit and another to cater to the shallow likes of their audiance, basically making the same game again and again. That aspect also makes me not be so excited for their stuff, because each of their games has that smell to them coming atcha 20 feet before release. That all said :) I'd be cool to play sometime, are you on PS3 or XBOX?
