    • As a collector, I really love to show off with all the books on my shelves (although I haven't read half of them yet). Even though I got used to digital music, I'm totally and completely against this e-book stuff. I can't really say why, and it sure may have advantages, but still, books are books, they have a tradition that's hundrets of years old, they smell like books (I love the smell of a new book, and I'm always a bit scared that a second hand book may stink, but that's just part of the pleasure), I love to run my fingers over the sides of the pages while reading (one time, I read a second choice book that had some scratches on its back and was over 1000 pages long, and in the end I really missed feeling these scratches beneath my fingers when I finished this book and began another one), I love to go through unsorted heaps of books at second hand bookshops, and I'm even proud of the way-too-heavy boxes of books when I have to move.

And by the way, if you're in bed, lying on your back while reading, and you fall asleep, an e-book will hurt your nose when it falls on your face. Paper still is softer (except you're reading the Encyclopedia Britannica or something like that).

So no, no e-books for me...

    • Vaughn Bode. That's why it looked familiar. I just forgot the name of the artist. You kind of forget that while Ralph Bakshi is a great animator, most of the art work is adapted from another source and has to resemble that style rather than his own. That's funny about Freebird. I just saw this movie called Devil's Rejects produced by Rob Zombie and he was able to use it at the end of his movie. I guess licencing fees change over time. I totally forgot that Bakshi worked on the old Spider-Man. The Von Ghouls said:

Bakshi also did Hey Good Lookin' set in the crudest 1950s ever seen and American Pop which had Big Brother's Summertime and Hendrix/Jefferson Airplane hits in the soundtrack. Bakshi wanted Freebird but the studio made them use Seger's Night Moves for the weak finale.

Believe it or not, Bakshi worked on the old Spiderman cartoons in the 1960s and later trained John K of Ren+Stimpy. In Wizards he was just trying out rotoscoping which is hand drawing over old movie footage with changes. He used this heavily in Lord of the Rings which I think is his best work ever and a great treatment of the first book and a half.

Unfortunately there was lawsuits over Wizards because the characters were blatantly lifted from Vaughn Bodé's Cheech Wizard. I'm not sure what happened with Fritz the Cat but creator R. Crumb was shattered as I remember.

There was another movie done with Frank Frazetta called Fire and Ice but the story was so miserable you even get tired of the great art. Bakshi was one of few Americans fighting against the Disney monopoly on animation for decades.

    • I really liked the way that Reno 911 took the piss outta all the reality cop shows. Those reality cop shows are just awful, in fact basically the whole reality genre is awful. I used to love The Shield but not many people watched it over here so they pulled it.

    • It's hard to get into Reno 911 with just 1 or two episodes. I had to watch during a marathon otherwise I wasn't going to return to it probably but after five, I was totally hooked and thought it was hilarious.

Burn Notice is a bit light. I probably sound like a wimp not really appreciating The Shield like most people, but comparing the two shows is almost like comparing the Mummies to the Dwarves (1990 to 1996 version). And you can probably guess which one I really love of those two groups.

    • Rockford Files! James Garner is the man! Haven't seen Burn Notice yet, and what I saw of Reno 911 looked OK, but that was only a couple episodes. Nothing drew me in at the time. Click the link I posted for The Wire, Rami. You can watch it there... Rockin Rod Strychnine said:

You mentioned Burn Notice. That's a little more up my alley. I guess I like my entertainment a little more light hearted. I'm also a big Rockford fan.

I love Reno 911. And personally, I really have a problem with the Shield. Just a bunch of back stabbers. Criminals posing as cops even if they originally joined the force with the best of intentions. I can see having mental breakdowns and proposing to yourself "should I step over the line this one time and will anyone notice?" but to actually cross the line and hope to get away with something just reeks of cowardness. Whatever you want to answer though, don't give away the ending. I didn't have cable at the time the series came to a close and they cancelled re-runs in the area I live so I'm going to have to rent it, so yeah, I did watch it. Just had a problem with it as well.

    • I love Shield man. It´s a bit different genre i´m talking about. Shield is A-class cop thriller. Maybe the best ever. What i am looking for my b-entertainment mood. Reno 911! does the job. Shield is up somewhere with the Burn notice. Serious cop thriller was something complitely different. NEVER HERAD OF THE WIRE????? kopper said:

    • I saw yer tweet about the turtles getting burned alive during the controlled burns, made me feel sick. The lack of any sort solution is well beyond a joke now and everyone else who should be involved seems to be sitting around with their collective thumbs up their collective arses. I hate to think whats gonna happen when hurricane season really gets going.

    • I love it. Time passing becomes measured by how much their home's wall is left unchewed by the racoons who take over the home. The HBO show wasn't half bad either. Drew Barrymore definitely prepared well for the role.

    • I went and checked out avatar in 3D. The 3D blew my mind, i actually got vertigo in a couple parts but the movie itself was just a sci fi fantasy rehash of lord of the rings as far as I was concerned. A total waste of money, time and effort. And just because it was made in my hometown I'll apologize to everyone; sorry for putting you through that three and a half hours of shit. kopper said:

Haven't seen Avatar nor do I ever plan on it. The characters alone look so completely stupid that I was repulsed immediately into not watching it.

I love films, BUT, anything just now from holywood is bad, Avatar... yeah?! I used to love and swear by Alejandro Jodorowsky's holy mountain, but looking back.. I'm no' so sure! Also ''In a blue world'', a Spanish take off of clockwork orange.. Bolywood, and feelgood films Make me cringe. Any nice family comedy is sure to be a destroyer of my day. Oh yeah, and anything from Trauma movies, while i love trash and exploitation, there has to be a fence, way up high to stop people viewing this tripe .

    • I've seen this, it's super bad ass! One of the highlights certainly is Bukowski as himself, the most lecherous booze soaked mo-fo eva making the scene. Freak out, freak out! i will send you a couple of links of some other vantastic stuff, seester. Vansploitation rules! When I was just a wee little dirtbag, back in high school in the *cough* 70's, it was my dream to someday own a Surfer Van - the ultimate customized surf ride to cruise the golden California coast in. It was going to be orange, and yes, shag carpeting in the back was mandatory, along with flared wheel wells, a nice set of fat BFG's T/A radials on Crager rims (big in back small in the front), chromed side pipes and the coup de grâce - a dark smoked plastic window on the side rear panel shaped like an iron cross. If you were really, really cool, you could top off all this bad-to-the-boneness with a Budweiser or Coors beer tap handle re-purposed as a shift knob.

    • Why would anyone want to watch a crusty old 1970s van movie? To such naysayers, I say, behold...Supervan.

and yes, that is Charles Bukowski in a cameo as a wet tshirt judge.

    • I remember having watched snippets of the classic 1919 classic. I admit having understood very little of what was going on....only later in life did I do a little research on the expressionism used in it to try and fully grasp the meaning of it :). Dreamy flick indeed. I'd like to watch the other 2 versions and compare them though.
