we have a big party booked called the halloween monster mash with 3 bands The Torpedo Monkeys, Thee Gravemen and David Peter & The Wilde Sect, all bands will play six Cramps covers in memory of Lux Interior, might hopefully try and record it and put it out on vinyl, but its a big maybe. I will be dressed as my usual Jack the Ripper/Grave Digger. Hopefully everyone will get in the Cramps/Horror spirit and put on some silly costumes.

thanks! it sounds like technics is the best but they are out of my price range...i'll keep checking ebay for used ones...also, does anyone know anything about crosley? they're more affordable and pretty nice looking, but will they destroy my records?
i've read both good and bad reviews of that brand so i'm wondering if anyone here has used one and can give me some insight. thanks again

Gotta weigh in on the Technics SL-1200 myself. It's a tank! It'll last you forever. Worth the money to buy new, but watch eBay for great deals on used ones.

I have a Technics player that's lasted me nearly 20 years now. Don't remember exactly what it cost but it was probably somewhere between $100-150.

Can't agree more that Technics are definitely the way to go if you can afford them. Stanton do a couple of pretty reasonable (if a little less classy) alternatives which would save you a small wedge but it’s worth splashing out if you can. SL-1200s will pretty much out-last anything else...
If you’re tempted to buy a vintage player (who could blame you? They’re oh-so pretty...) at least make damn sure you find out if you can change the needle otherwise you’ll only end up shredding your vinyl.
The irritating truth is that (as with anything slightly technological) you’re always best off committing to spend as much as you possibly can...

I wouldn't recommend buying a cheap player. I think Technics' SL-1200 series are good, but actually a new model is expensive, so... Mine is SL-1200MK3D and is very good! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technics_SL-1200

Thanks!

There are a few free packages out there that allow you to stream from your computer to others. Without a repeater, listeners may have to connect directly to your IP address of your cable modem. Icecast is a "free" version of Shoutcast, which broadcasts a stream to their repeater and surely must put ads in, whereas Icecast just broadcasts from your own computer, avoiding a repeater. So, you might want to look into Icecast as well as a Darwin Streaming Server which can take a live show and stream it over the Internet. Here are some links that might help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_streaming_media_systems http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_streaming_media_systems

I co-host a live audio podcast and what you're describing is not doable cheaply unless you want you have a friend who does it professionally. It's ALOT of work. The set up we have is in a professional sound studio and we *still* outsource the pros to capture and host the feed.

I usually don't have a problem figuring out the best way to do something by googling - but this live-audio-broadcast business seems a bit daunting. I have a decent grasp on computer/internet related stuff but I'm having trouble figuring out the best cheap way to do a live audio broadcast. I'm wanting to do a one night broadcast from a bar I'm djing at on Halloween. Lots of trashy, spooky stuff, while also talking live. But I'll just be using the bar's internet (fairly decent but I don't have numbers). Is there a free, reliable host for live streaming audio? If not - anyone know of a hook up (say $50 dollars or less) for a pay service? Or am I way off and there's some super easy way of doing this? All replies will be greatly, greatly appreciated. I love garagepunk.com!!!!
