To be truthful, I've only brewed from kits, never grain-only, but that doesn't stop me from geekin' out when I can. I love learning about all of the variables that go into a good beer, not to mention all the myriad styles around the world.

Found this on the Web, sounds tasty:
All-Grain - Smooth Oatmeal Stout
Recipe Type: All Grain
Yeast: S-04
Yeast Starter: no
Batch Size (Gallons): 5.25
Original Gravity: 1.055
Final Gravity: 1.018
IBU: 36
Boiling Time (Minutes): 60
Color: 35
Primary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): 14days @ 65F
Secondary Fermentation (# of Days & Temp): no
OG 1.055 (80% efficiency, adjust base malt for your system)
IBUs 36
6.75# Pale malt
0.5# roasted Barley (350l)
0.75# chocolate (330l)
0.5# crystal 40
0.5# crsytal 120
0.75# victory
1# flaked oats
2oz Willamette hops at 60
S-04 yeast
Single infusion mash at 156F for 60 min.
I threw this recipe together when I had concerns about the astringency of my previous stout.
This one is very smooth and full bodied even at 2 weeks in bottle, no problems with astringency. The roast flavors are subdued compared to most bold stouts but it tastes oh so good.

Right on. Concerning the bad rap they got back in tha day, Vincent Price used to say: "Horror movies are nothing compared to REAL life. To be dead.....to be really dead... that must be amazing!"

Exactly. he spoke of that , how a lot of great silent film actors had to forfeit their careers , when sound pictures came in , because they did'nt have distinctive voices. So , people with a Theatre background , such as Price , himself, soon ruled the silver screen.
Horror films always got a bad rap in Uncle Vinnie's day , but people like him, and Boris Karloff ,were known as gentlemen , and seldom accosted in the scandal sheets like all the "Respectable" Hollywood types.

John Battles said:Vincent Price was a real class act. I was priveledged to have met him, twice.
He set an example as an Artist , and as a person , on how to treat people. He really cared what people had to say , and he tried to talk to everyone , even , and especially , children.
A true gentleman in every sense of the word. With the exception of Christopher Lee , he is the last of the greats. He loved his work , and he loved meeting people.
When he came to my University , I saw the head of the Art Dept. making out his itinerary , which included lunch at "Mary of Puddin' Hill" , a hick eatery outside of town. I suggested ,as Mr. Price was a gourmet cook , they should at least take him to the Lone four star (Chinese) restaurant in the area . "OH , NO " , HE SAID , "Mr. Price insisted . He wants to meet the local people".

I ALMOST FORGOT.
THERE'S A SCENE IN "DRAC VS. FRANK" WHERE REGINA CARROLL IS SHOWN PERFORMING IN A VEGAS (OR TAHOE?) SHOWROOM. THE MARQUEE SHOWS LOVE'S LOGO , IN RED. BUT , LOVE WAS'NT PLAYING THERE , IT WAS JUST AN APPROPRIATION OF THEIR LOGO.
LOVE WOULD HAVE JUST SPLIT UP BY THEN , ANYWAY.

I know it was'nt a hoax. But , when I first (and last ) saw the 45 , all I knew about the band was , one reviewer (Erroneously) said they sounded like Black Sabbath , and that Candy Del Mar played Bass with them , at one point , before joining The Cramps. With what little I knew about Maila Nurmi at that time , I did'nt think she'd be hanging out with , much less recording with , a band like this. Anybody could have said "Vampira is on my record" , and not expected to have heard from Nurmi's Lawyers.
Similarly , when I first found Southern Culture on The Skids' " i Viva (De) El Santo !" 45 , well , of course , Santo had been deceased for several years , but his Son , El Hijo De El Santo , still wrestles and makes movies , today , in a mask similar to , but , not identical to , his Father's trademark silver mask. So I thought it might have been him , or even a lost recording by Santo himself . OF COURSE , IT WAS NEITHER , JUST A GREAT RECORD AND A HEARTFELT TRIBUTE. I only read , recently , that The Misfits befriended Nurmi after recording their song , "Vampira". Not to take anything away from it , but , Bobby Bare's "Vampira" song is better
