Old Tom Gin was formerly made under license by a variety of distillers around the world; however one was recently relaunched by Hayman's distillery based on an original recipe.^[3] Since then a number of other companies have followed suit such as, Both's, Secret Treasures, Jensens, Ransom and even The Dorchester Hotel. ^[4]The first written record of Old Tom Gin being used in the Tom Collins cocktail was the 1891 book, The Flowing Bowl: When and What to Drink.[5

Never had or even seen Old Tom.  Am I right that it was the Tom used in the creation of the Tom Collins?

Ford Cocktail

Styled after a classic gin Martini, this Old Tom variation invites a bit of Bénédictine into the mix.

2 oz. Old Tom gin

1 oz. Dolin Dry vermouth

1/4 oz. Bénédictine

2 dashes orange bitters

Ice cubes

Tools: mixing glass, barspoon, strainer

Glass: coupe

Garnish: orange peel

Combine all ingredients and stir with ice. Strain into a chilled coupe and garnish by expressing the orange oils over the drink and then discarding the peel.

Been very into Ransom Old Tom Gin lately. Been making a drink called a Martinez with it:

2 oz. Old Tom Gin

1 oz. Sweet Vermouth

1/4 oz. Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur

Dash Old Fashioned Orange Bitters

They say it's how the Manhattan transitioned into the Martini, and it's pretty delicious. I'll have to try your recipe. And I totally dig the Buffalo Trace with Fuzz as swell! TGIF!!

Tom Terrific

Fresh citrus and a splash of hoppy IPA brighten up this Old Tom sipper.

1 3/4 oz. Old Tom gin

1/2 oz. Cherry Heering

1/2 oz. Demerara simple syrup (2:1 sugar to water)

1/2 oz. fresh lemon juice

2 oz. IPA beer

Ice cubes

Tools: shaker, strainer

Glass: Collins

Garnish: orange wheel

Combine all ingredients, except beer, and shake with ice. Strain over fresh ice cubes into a Collins glass, top with beer and garnish.

ooo I like the bulb idea for the kitchen, unfortunately I have those little bastard spotlights in the rest of my flat and because the electrics are dodgy half of them flash like a disco which isn't so spooky.

Mike:  A classic costume is a solid choice.  I'm diggin' it that you've had your place decked for a month now.  Black trash bags work great.  You could swap out your light bulbs for green ones or if you use fluorescents you could use bulbs that are of a lower voltage (this will cause the light to flicker and "brown out" a bit).  You could also get some glow sticks and place them behind some of your favorite knick-knacks to draw attention and create an eire glow.

This year I think I'm going to be an uncanny giant Kewpie doll. Creepin' in the uncanny valley!

Dracula, but I'm only doing it with a dress shirt and a cape. But I'm going to town a bit more on my living room. I've had it decorated for a month now but for Halloween itself I'm going to darken the place with black bin liners. Any other cheap ideas to sort out a Halloween home are welcomed.

I just read Kenny Anger's Hollywood Babylon for the first time and it was fuckin' awesome. defintely read this if you want to know about the raunchy 20-40s in hollywood.

i have not seen No Time for Sergeants, though i will add that to my list of shit to check out. Andy Griffith jams in A Face in the Crowd. I was impressed. 

As far as old cartoons, they always catch my attention. The older they are, the more interested I am. And, like, it amazes me how you can see such a change in what is socially acceptable over time through cartoons. Like the old bugs bunny cartoons with the hunter in blackface. No fucking way that could pass on tv now. On screen stuff in general is like a time-traveling trip through society.
