I have got to see this.
Has anyone read Tav Falco's Book on Memphis? Is it worth it?
Wow cheers for all the great recommendations people, I'll be checking loads of these out. Two really strange trippy films: first, L'urlo (the Howl) 1968 (make sure you look up the Tinto Brass one) featuring the lovely Tina Aumont http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJQRdx1PJHY
And second, Hausu, (House) 1977, there used to be a killer clip on youtube where a girl gets eaten by a lampshade and sucked into a kind of animated psychedelic world but I can only assume it got taken down. Also look out for a piano eats fingers scene.. again, was once on youtube but now I can't find it..
FRED : YOU KNOW , ME AND BUBBA AND LEROY AND SKILLET WAS WATCHIN' THE LATE , LATE, LATE SHOW LAST NIGHT , IT WAS A TERRIFFIC DOUBLE HEADER , "THE THING THAT ATE EL SEGUNDO , AND GOT HEARTBURN " AND " GORK MEETS GODZILLA AND GAMERA AT THE BABY DOLL POLKA LOUNGE"! BUT , MY FAVORITE MONSTER IS STILL YOUR AUNT ESTHER!
LAMONT: POP , WOULD YOU DIG YOURSELF ?!!!
ESTHER: THAT'S ALL RIGHT , LAMONT , I NEVER ASSOCIATE MYSELF WITH ANY OLD SNAGGLETOOTH JACKASS, COCKEYEDED BUZZARD , SHEMP - HEAD BAT , ANYWAY !!!
FRED : WHO YOU CALLIN' OLD ?!!!
.........AND ALSO APPEARS TO HAVE 5 SUBPLOTS WITHIN THE MAIN FRAME OF THE STORY , AND INVOLVES HACKED OFF LIMBS FOR THE MAD SCIENTIST BLACK MARKET...... I HAD TO WATCH IT A COUPLE OF TIMES BEFORE I REALLY LIKED IT , BECAUSE THE EDITING WAS KINDS HERKY JERKY "WHAT DOES THIS SCENE HAVE TO DO WITH THIS?"....BUT ANY MOVIE , EVEN THE ''TITANTIC" WOULD HAVE BEEN IMMINENTLY MORE WATCHABLE WITH VINCENT PRICE , PETER CUSHING AND CHRISTOPHER LEE....

Have you ever seen Scream and Scream Again? That was always a favourite of mine as a kid.
Cool. I don't think I've seen it but I can kind of picture the car thing, it does sound very familiar.

Well worth seeing as long as it's not the sanitized TV version. It's got a fab theme song by Amen Corner too.
No, I never even heard of that one.

Maybe someone here can help me out with this. I can recall watching the first half hour or so of a movie which I believe was titled "The Mark of Death." It started off with a scene of two people running across a field, and they had bandages wrapped around their heads. They appeared to be escaping from some place, and they were chased by some evil looking men in a car that was equipped with a large blade that popped out of the side of the car. Apparently the two escapees were cut in half by that blade. The scene then switches to a London club, where a songwriter is bitching about bands ripping off his songs, which leads to him getting punched in the mouth by a band member. His friends suggest that he take a holiday in the country side, so he takes a train, and he meets a pretty young girl (wearing a mini skirt and boots) on that train. For whatever reason, I wasn't able to watch the rest of the movie. I'm trying to find out more about it, but the title that I remember isn't helping me very much, so now I'm wondering if I remember it wrong. I described that scene in the hope that it will jog someone else's memory.

You should read the book:) It has a lot of great backstories for the characters. You'll also learn about how Don Vito took on Al Capone and kicked his ass.

So many weird memories of laying around the house as a kid and watching the Munsters. I do specifically remember that Hot Rod Herman episode as well.
You're absolutely right , Howie. "The Mask" had the best 3-D EFFECTS AND SURREAL , HORRIFFC IMAGERY OF ANY REVIVED 3-D FILM IN THE 80'S. Rhino released it on video in the 80's , too , and the 3-D is still stunning. Especially when the hands come out of the screen and shoot fire ! iT'S ARGUABLY MORE EFFECTIVE , TOO , THAT THE WHOLE MOVIE WAS NOT IN 3-D , JUST THE VERY EARLY TRIP SEQUENCES. "PUT....THE MASK ....ON !!".
let's not forget the wonder black & white psychedelic nightmare ride, The Mask!!! Also shown on TV in 3D in the 80's...almost every frame a masterpiece of surreal photography...(yay!)
Nero , No , I'm not familiar with that one , though "Star Wars" cash-in attempts were as ubiquitous in the Late 70's - Early 80's as terrible music on the radio (England , for one, largely excluded , though I'm sure you had your fill , in and amongst all the stuff that NEVER got played , here. ). 1983? You don't say. Had Molly Ringwald even done "16 Candles " or "The Breakfast Club" by then? I don't remember.... What's funny about that ad is ,A) They claim it's the first Sci Fi /Space Adventure film in 3-D. "Fantastic Invasion of Planet Earth"and even "It Came From Outer Space " (If you want to bend the rules a bit) had 20 to 30 years on it . No matter. and B) THEY DID'NT POINT OUT , THAT IN ORDER TO VIEW THE TRAILER IN 3-D , YOU LITERALLY HAVE TO STARE AT THE IMAGE IN THE CENTER , CROSS - EYED , UNTIL THE THREE BECOME ALIGNED. It's a strain on the eye muscles , BUT , RELATIVELY EASY TO DO.....
I HAVE'NT SEEN ANY NEW 3-D films....I remember when color films required grey tinted glasses , and B&W ones required the classic red and blue/green glasses , which were safe to wear outdoors , but the grey glasses could permanently fuck up your eyes , when exposed to the sun.
