    • It's so stupid. We all grew up loving shows from the 50's and 60's. I was'nt around in the 50's , and scarcely remember the late 60's, but all my favorite shows are pre - 80's.
It's not like we're Michael J.Fox in "Back To The Future"  , and would have known what Ralph Kramden was going to wear to the Racoon Lodge PARTY , BEFORE THE SHOW HAD EVER AIRED. A great show is a great show. Same is true of Horror Hosts , making a comeback , if they know what they're doing . It's proven successful more than once , tho' I'd love to see reruns of the original Svengoolie , and shows like that...

Exactly.  It's the stations' mentality that nobody is going to remember anything from the 50s or 60s AS IF all those people are dead or just don't turn on a TV or radio anymore.  NIck at NIte has shows that are even more recent.

Sure , MeToo or MeTV is showing "Square Pegs", but , to me , THAT'S recent. And , I love that show....But even our remaining local UHF (OR WHATEVER THEY ARE , NOW)  stations were showing All in The Family , Sanford and Son , The Honeymooners , all the shows that SHOULD be on from 10:00 PM To MIDNIGHT, BUT , SLOWLY , THEY'D GET REPLACED BY ROSEANNE , FRAZIER , OTHER SHOWS THAT WERE'NT EVEN FUNNY , A WHOMPIN' 15 YEARS AGO.  It's like "Oldies " stations playing Billy Joel or Phil Colllins. It ain't Kosher.

    • Yeah, TVLand really sucks now with more recent reruns and adding new TV shows that the 3 majors won't touch.  Nick At Nite is pretty bad too.  So thank goodness for MeTV, Antenna TV and Retro TV.  I think Retro has something called Chiller Diller Movies also on Saturdays but they never say what's on in the listing or discription.

Yeah , you're right. Antenna is SO similar to Me Too , it's easy to mistake one for the other. Those three stations are about all I watch , anymore. I never had TV Land , but , now , I don't think I'm missing that much. Nickelodeon USED TO have the best weeknight lineup - Dobie Gillis , Car 54 , Mr. Ed, Patty Duke , then , locally , we'd get The Honeymooners and Sgt, Bilko AT 10 AND 11 , I think....Elvira had a new show , I forget what station , and it was great . All classic schlock horror , plus she could incorporate more "Adult" humor. It died on the vine.

Bishop. He had Ernie Anderson's permission to do a character based on Ghoulardi , though with a more Hippie bent. He was great , there's cool clips on You Tube , inc. one with Tempest Storm !!! But , Richard Koz replaced him as "Son OF sVENGOOLIE" , I think , in the late 70's. He was off the air for several years , but , came back , doing the same act , as just "Svengoolie".  Bishop was way funnier , BUT , Koz is keeping it alive , and the kids love him , which is great.

    • You're right. It aired , briefly , in Chicago , when I was'nt living here. It originated in Canada . There is a DVD "Best of" that comes recommended to all fans of Rock'n'Horror. They had a real "Wolfman Jack" that would spin Rock'n'Roll hits (This was pre - Disco.), which the monsters would dance to. The host looked like Barnabis Collins....if he had green Vulcan blood. PLUS ! Vincent Price would do cameos , too ! But , yeah , it was more sketch - oriented. Good fun , tho'.

There was another show during the 70s that was pretty great and even though it didn't have movies it was in the same vein but was more like a sketch show.  Hillarious House of Frightenstein, I think it was called.

    • If you ever read Atomised (UK title) or The Elementary Particles (US title and closer to the French) be sure to have a fortifying B-12 shot first. The novel mixes quantum physics, sex addiction, harsh critiques of the New Age and hippie movements, Kant, Nietzche and asexual reproduction in a braver than Brave New World scenario. Depressing, bleak and it makes the movie Prometheus look like a kindergarten tale. Actually, my new favorite book which makes me a bit of a sicko I guess. The author Michel Houellebecq was known for writing a bio of H.P. Lovecraft before this novel brought him notoriety. Not for the fainthearted . . . has anyone read this one or any other of Houellebecq's works?

    • Then there's the "why bother when it hasn't been that long ago" argument such as the newest Spider-Man.  They are changing so much that I get the feeling that it's not the same at all, which is kind of what the creators are going for but why so soon?  Because Sony(?) will lose their license on the character in a few more years and not get to renew if they don't jump on it now.

    • As a long time comic book reader and fan, I think most film adaptations of comics miss the mark for me.  The biggest reason is that being a comic book geek, I know too much about characters, the story and the comics universe.  In order for Hollywood to make a film based on a comic book character, lots modifications and compromises have to be made to find the "least common denominator" for Joe Average moviegoer.  This also happens to classic fantasy/scifi characters like Conan, Tarzan and John Carter.

That said, I did enjoy Sam Raimi's Spiderman trilogy and I really thought the Avengers was great.

I USED TO BE A CONTRIBUTOR TO PSYCHOTRONIC VIDEO IN THE LATER DAYS. I TALK TO MICHAEL ONCE IN A WHILE , STILL. I COULD ASK HIM. IT MAY BE A WHILE , THO'.

    • I've been an Ordained Minister in the Church of the Subgenius since the early '80s, but I sadly cannot remember my church name. It's on a card somewhere!

    • July 1, 2012 11:15 AM CDT
    • After being a fan of Rev. Ivan Stang and his Church of the SubGenius for well over 25 years, I finally decided to become a member last week. I ordered a T-shirt and sent off for the ordainment kit, so I am now an officially ordained minister in the church and a devoted follower of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs. But now I'm supposed to send in the postcard with my Church Name, so I need to come up with something good... I was going to use Dr. Gonzo or Rev. Louie Louie (they have to be either "Dr." or "Rev." something), but I found out those are already taken. Rev. Kopper just sounds a little boring to me and I'd like to come up with something fresh and new, and it'd be even better if it was similar to a lot of the really cool/funny punk rock pseudonyms that have been used. Here's my short list of choices:

      Rev. Rico Hot Sauce
      Dr. Yuk
      Dr. Ripxoid (pronounced rip-zoid)
      Rev. Max Wedge
      Rev. Capt. Nonsensical
      Dr./Rev. Lux Exterior
      Rev. Duncan Disorderly
      Dr. Frank N. Furter
      Rev. Riff Raff
(yeah, I used to be a big Rocky Horror freak!)

      Any other ideas?

Also, do we have any other SubGenius ordained ministers here? It'd be great to find out if any of the rest of you have SLACK and are on board and if you've ever been to an X-Day party and participate in any of their online groups/forums.

      Praise "Bob"!
