    • As for Alice Cooper the man vs the band, not sure of the specifics. The old band (minus Glen who died in '98 -- scratch that, '97) may well have played at it.

Unfortunately when people hear the name Alice Cooper these days, after 37+ years of him solo, 99% think of Vincent Furnier, not the original Nazz/Spiders/Earwigs line-up. You're probably right that they were all mentioned, but the reason I said it is, IMO I don't think Alice's solo career merits induction -- the '75 & on era mostly underwhelms me. Whereas the band era blows me away.

To further complicate matters, Furnier had his name legally changed to Alice Cooper in '75, AND purchased the copyright to the band name to use it independently. He actually has to pay the other four annual royalties for continuing to use the "brand name" Alice Cooper.

I see what you're saying about the band being there, but personally if it were up to me, the nomination would've been specifically "Bruce/Buxton/Cooper/Dunaway/Smith" and not Alice Cooper proper, because for over 3 decades Alice Cooper has only meant Furnier and his less than stellar solo act (some of which was quite good, granted, but still ...). I just like to see the original band get their due as much as possible. I feel bad for those guys, breaking up right when they were finally starting to get #1 albums. Maybe I'm splitting hairs though.

    • I did'nt know Thee Alice Couper GROUP was'nt inducted. Did'nt all the surviving members play  together at the induction ceremony last year , or the year before?

The only good thing about The Stooges being reduced to covering Madonna songs at her induction (Besides the sheer perversity of it.) was seeing Iggy and Madonna "Running into each other " in the hallway , Iggy giving her that "Wanna see my dressing room " look. Not really. Even IF he'd wanted to , his old lady would have put her foot so far up that woman's ass , there'd be  a mad rush to queue up the drum machines , samplers and synthesizers to document Madonna's "New Sound" , something akin to Sylvester hitting on Geddy Lee's helium tank.

    • I forgot about the Wildcards ...

EMERSON LAKE & PALMER (sorry, but Prog Rock IS drastically underrepresented in there ... it's a far cry from Garage, but it's still a kind of "Rock & Roll," at least peripherally, so ELP and King Crimson gotta be more reasonable choices than Mad Donna or Public Enema)

BE BOP DELUXE (probably the most criminally underrated band of the 70s)

THE ALICE COOPER GROUP (Alice is in there already, but pretty much as a solo act ... the original 1969 to 1974 line-up -- Bruce, Buxton, Cooper, Dunaway, Smith -- deserves its own separate induction)

      THE DICKIES

WENDY O. WILLIAMS & THE PLASMATICS

    • CAPTAIN BEEFHEART & HIS MAGIC BAND (Van Vliet was a genius, and every incarnation of the Magic Band was brilliant in a different way)

THE ELASTIK BAND (for Spazz alone they deserve a consideration)

      THE PENGUINS

      THE KINGSMEN

      T. REX

      DEEP PURPLE

      BLUE OYSTER CULT

      FOGHAT

NIRVANA (for Negative Creep if nothing else)

RICHARD O'BRIEN (The Time Warp -- nuff said)

There are many other artists that I think should also be in there (ELP, Yes, King Crimson, Brian Eno, America, et.al) but I didn't want to veer too far away from the punk/garage/blues-rock theme we have going.

    • THE ALICE COOPER GROUP "BILLION DOLLAR BILL", JUST LIKE THE CHEECH AND CHONG GIANT ROLLING PAPER INSERT , IS ELUSIVE , BUT , CAN STILL BE FOUND , ALONG WITH THE CARDS THAT ALSO CAME WITH THE RECORD. .... I AGREE , THE FIRST TWO ALICE COOPER ALBUMS ARE MUST - HAVES. IF YOU DON'T GET IT , SPEND SOME QUALITY TIME WITH 'EM , IT'S TIME WELL SPENT.

I used to have that big billion dollar bill that came with this, way back when. I wish I could find it now. In my teens, track 5 from this album (Unfinished Sweet) was my #1 favorite Alice Cooper song, for some weird reason. It's still probably my favorite track from B$B. The first Alice Cooper song I ever heard was Elected, also from this album ... it was way back when I was 7 or 8. I saw the Elected video with the monkey and the wheelbarrow full of money and never forgot it. I've been a Cooper fan ever since.

If you want to hear another great (and totally underrated) Alice Cooper album, check out the debut album Pretties For You from 1969. It's pure Garage Rock, and comes closer to the spirit of Nuggets than anything he's done since. You can also hear a prominent Frank Zappa influence on it (not too surprising since Zappa co-produced their first two albums). Not to mention that it has what I now consider to be the greatest Alice Cooper song of all, and possibly my favorite song of all time -- Fields of Regret.

    • I was at the Shadows of Knight show that John mentions. It was at the tail end of the summer, IIRC, at an outdoor festival. Jim Sohns was the only original left. The only actual Shadows songs performed were "Gloria," "Oh Yeah" and "Shake." The rest of their set was fleshed out by cover versions of such asskickers as "This Diamond Ring" and "Sunday Will Never Be The Same." Yikes. That'd be like the Yardbirds covering Chad & Jeremy songs. My hopes were fairly high - the only other time I saw them, it was on a Little Steven garage revue, and they sounded like they got "the fever" back. By the time of this outdoor show, they had reverted back to being a cheesy oldies band. For shame. As for Mitch Ryder, the only time I saw him was, again, at a county fair oldies revue with Spencer Davis, Mark Lindsay and Rare Earth. Under the circumstances, he kicked much ass.

Shadows of Knight have had a reputation for being terrible , or , at best , mediocre , for decades , in Chicagoland. They just did a rare (And free) show in Chicago proper a few months ago , About 3 blocks from my place. Thank God I had a family function to go to ! Jimy Sohns owns the name , so it's always been him and whoever is backing him. Joe Kelly sits in on occasion , or he used to. They're in that documentary on Garage Rock with Sky Saxon , which has it's moments , they're at least doing some of the right songs .  Did Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels do a reunion show ? Mitch may have just been using the name. In more recent live footage I've seen of him , he was killin' it , but , I have'nt seen him do a full set in nearly 20 years , usually with Johnny "B' Badanjek , from The Detroit Wheels on drums and Rob Gillespie (Powertrane , Rob Tyner Band.) on guitar. I've seen Mitch at least a half - dozen times , he was always great , even , and especially , when he was playing to 15 or 30 people.   But , I've heard he's done some bad , or just fair , shows , too.....       If you meant the Greenfuz show at The Ponderosa Stomp , MY GOD! THAT WAS PUTRID !! We all love that record for the cruddy sound , but , those guys sounded like they had'nt even practiced. Plus , the Southern Boogie Rock covers did'nt help. I wanted to love it..........

the worst reunion of a 60's band was The Shadows of Knight oh my god...the worst! Very similar were Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels (who i didn't go see but they were in a festival i was at...seriously everyone, even normal people were running to get outta there! Right up there with those 2 were The Green Fuz, woah, so bad the promoter "punished" them & forced them to come back & play Green Fuz all the way through without introducing the band all the way through it to get to their "important" blues ramblings...i do have a tape of it and it has a running commentary from my friend Todd Abramson that is fucking hysterical...I also saw the Shaggs & thought it was mind blowingly great...
