I agree, I was just pointing out his new stuff, I have "lemons" and also "Melted" and of course the self titled first LP, which is super raw low=fi and reverb drenched, yet still has a melodic quality. Also, for kicks check out "Ty Rex" his 6 song cover album of T-Rex tunes, pretty cool too.

In my opinion the best Ty Segall tracks are on his records from <2010. Check out his S/t LP (2008), Horn The Unicorn (2009) and Lemons (2009) if you want a real treat that you just can't get from his newer stuff.
Also another up-and-comer that's getting really big is Thee Oh Sees. Their new album Putrifiers II just leaked and it rips pretty hard. I would definitely snag it when it releases early September and check out their albums from 2008 and 2009 as well. Really great stuff.

Only recorded a single? bummer...
You'd think that a collaboration with these three would warrant at least a 6 or 8 song EP... pressed on 10", please. On fire marbled vinyl.

Sorry guys, I don't know any specifics about how SXSW does what they do - I'm not affiliated with them in any way. Just saw the announcement and thought some folks here might be interested in trying to play there. If I read the announcement right, the submission fee is probably the fee just to apply - who knows what happens after that, but I'm sure it's a long drawn out process.
Maybe try this: The Unofficial SXSW User's Guide Ning

Does anyone here know if a band is accepted for a showcase how SXSW decides where you are playing as well as which other bands you will be playing with? Just wondering if a garagepunk band is accepted would they get thrown in a showcase with indie or metal acts.

I always liked The Pandoras , still do , in fact , but , for my money , The Brood had a bigger and better body of work. They stuck to their guns....I know it was hard NOT to go metal in Late 80's L.A. , but other bands bands resisted. Does'nt mean most of 'em got work. I remember hearing a track from "Rock Hard" on the radio , and the DJ literally stopped the record ,apologizing for playing it.

Never thought about that....But , there's only one set of Heartbreakers to me , and Tom Petty was'nt frontin' 'em. When we were deluged with Petty on the radio in the very late 70's - 80's , I'm sure a LOT of his songs were misheard , in humorous ways. Granted , compared to a lot of the crap that passed for "Rock" at that time , I guess Petty's early hits did'nt age THAT badly.....
Eagles "Life in The Fast Lane" - "We've been up and down this highway , have'nt seen a goddamn thing" "We've been up and down this highway , have'nt seen The Camptown Race".

Its very difficult to be absolutely period perfect. The Hi Class Joes are trying to replicate the sound and look of an early British Beat band. We dress the part and also use all vintage equipment. I would have to say that we are probably the best band in Britain at the moment playing that early Beat and RnB sound. We have an lp out soon on Soundflat.
