    • ....It seems , too , that a lot of the original bands who have reformed , AND were still really good , have broken up again.....But , there's still ? and The Mysterians , The Alarm Clocks ,The Rezillos , Eddie and The Hot Rods , The Gizmos , Downliners Sect , Chocolate Watchband * , Dictators NYC ( It's still The Dictators , from where I stand . ) , Buzzcocks , Ty Wagner (Tho' he's not playing out , much.), Bubble Puppy , The Nervebreakers , The Mentally Ill , Strawberry Alarm Clock , Davie Allan and The Arrows , Thee Midniters , Electric Prunes , Blues Magoos , Powder , Syndicate of Sound ....some of these bands may have retired from performing , but , most , if not all , of them are still active.

*The Chocolate Watchband was on hiatus for several years. Then , they were scheduled to play in San Francisco , last April . My Girlfriend and I had tix , but , the show was cancelled with no explanation. Several months later , Mark Loomis , original Guitarist , passed away. He'd only played with the reformed group when he was available.   Whether or not they're planning to play out again , I could'nt say.

    • YEAH , The Boys are BACK (Sounds like a song....), tho' I don't think they ever officially split , just went on hiatus , maybe , because they've been doing club dates and Punk fesivals, off and on , since THE 9O's.

They've got a new release , "Punk Rock Menopause". I don't have it , but , I'm sure it's very good. They played in Chicago about six months ago , and they were ON FIRE.  The band was tight , the harmonies were spot on . and they were very professional.  They said they plan to come back here , within the year , so , if you don't live TOO far away , it would be worth the trip , if that happens.....I'M sure they'll do more US dates , but , this one was the 5th or 6th US show , ever , and you could tell they were blown away by the response.

    • Anyone know of any good bands from the sixties and seventies that are active today? Mainly looking for garage, psych or punk. I just know of a couple of bands like The Pretty Things, The Sonics, Radio Birdman.

good thread. are there any good current blues punk bands? i play drums in one here in sf (link in profile, shameless self promo) and we're having some trouble finding bands to network/play with.

Check out John Schooley's last couple albums... Dead Mall Blues and The Man Who Rode a Mule Around the World. Good stuff!

    • Man , I almost forgot .  GREAT EXAMPLE OF AN EARLY pUNK bLUES 45 WOULD BE  THE UNCALLED FOUR'S "Grind Her Up" b/w "Cotton Fields". Based in Waco (!) , the band centered around marrieds ,  Randy and Donna Reeves , two Rock'n'Roll lifers (Sadly , Donna left this life a few years ago. She was a great , great lady). RANDY WOULD GO ON TO WRITE FOR NEXT bIG tHING , AND PLAY A CRUCIAL FACTOR IN GETTING Ronnie Dawson's classic  material released on vinyl. HE ALSO RECORDED JACK STARR'S LAST SESSIONS , MADE VIDEOS ON HIM , AND LED NOTORIOUS THE ROBERT TILTON FAN CLUB.The Reeves dropped out of performing upon starting  a family. Donna hosted a Rockabilly program on KNON radio in Dallas....THE BAND WAS ORIGINALLY JOINED BY JEFF SATAN , later with Sata's Cheerleaders and Satan's Satellites , and aspired to a sound something akin to The Cramps ,Tav Falco and early solo Alex Chilton , but , came up with something entirely their own , a truly fucked up car-crash blend off PUNK AND BLUES that foresaw the rise of The Gibson Bros. THE BAND MADE A VIDEO FOR "GRIND HER UP" a few years later. Look it up on You Tube.

    • If you have a Mac, just use GarageBand. It's perfect and works great. It also integrates with your iTunes library so it's really easy to drop in songs, sound effects, sound bytes, etc.

    • I love the podcasts on GRGPNK and I've been inspired to learn how to make one. However, I really have no idea where to start. What program and/or app is best/easiest to use (I have a Mac)? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    • Also , the press has been keen to call this the first - ever Elevators reunion , when , besides the '84 shows (Doing mostly Roky's solo material.) , the band played a one  - off gig in '77 (Minus Roky and Tommy.) , and several gigs in '73 (With Roky , Ronnie , John Ike and Stacy, but , not Tommy.).

    • February 14, 2015 11:38 PM CST
    • THIS TIME , HELL HAS REALLY FROZEN OVER....I'd heard loose talk about this a few months back , but , it was only just confirmed . i'm not sure how I feel about it. John ike and Ronnie tried to get Roky to perform with them in the Early 90's ., and the three of them did two gigs in 1984.  But , not only is Roky's heart more into playing out , his sets tend to consist of at least half Elevators songs , whereas , for decades , he only did "You're Gonna Miss Me" and "Splash One". If you saw the other article , this week , Tommy Hall rambles at length about mathematics ,drugs , and other topics , but has little to say about THE eLEVATORS' MUSIC , EXCEPT THAT HE'S ANXIOUS TO DO THE SHOW , AND WILL HAVE TO START PRACTICING THE JUG , As he claims he has'nt been in a band of any kind in eons (Roky said he was in a traditional jug band in the 70's...).So , how they're all going to get along personally , as well as musically , remains to be seen.

IT'LL ALSO BE INTERESTING TO SEE WHO THEY GET TO PLAY LEAD GUITAR....while Stacy Sutherland can't be replaced , I'm sure they can find someone who'd give their left nut to play tehse songs , AND do 'em justice......It's looking very much like a Hippie camping fest , to me , but , the impossible is happening. We should all be glad , whether we can go , or not.
