I liked control alot actually. In fact, the only part I did not like was when Ian is playing "Love Will Tear Us Apart" on an Eastwood Phantom copy instead of a genuine Vox Phantom like in the video. Especially since Eastwood did not start making guitars until 2001, twenty years after this movie takes place.

24 hour party people was great for the first half. The second half was awful. Entirely unwatchable. I turned it off. I've never seen a movie go downhill like that.

"Bellllllchhhhhh! & Buuuurrrrp!" is what you would be doing after a crate of that (very good) beer! (Hee-Hee)

Does anybody out there remember "Steppin' Out" by Paul Revere and the Raiders? I think it, Like Louie Louie, was a staple of that NW Coast scene in the Sixties. I remember it fondly, and still play it every now and then when I pick up a guitar.If there was a video of it out there it would be great to see.

I'm actually in the midst of writing a lengthy article about The Clash, the solicitation largely due to interest in this documentary. I relate to your post; I've never been a huge fan of The Clash, but I've added the catalogue to my ipod and I'm starting to get it...only took me until 2008.

Hi Andy, if you are are distributing vinyl then it is getting more difficult, but here in sweden there is hotstuff.se, and in germany there is lutz at soundflat.de of course, and in the US there is/was Pandemic vinyl and underground medicine and bomp will still dist underground vinyl, if I think of more I wll let you know.

My all time favorite video right now is The Jesus Christ Twist by Reverend Beat-man its so brilliant and the song is great too. i also give this song an award for the best song about a dance. This is, to my knowledge that i currently remember, also the only video that features a cool use of the split screen effect. After watching this video I additionally wish that Rev Beat-man was in every movie.

I agree with you regarding seeing 60s bands but some are just plain dreadful (The Action, The Creation) while others can still give a decent performance (The Remains), the rest I've seen were just ok (e.g. Music Machine, Monks etc though they got fantastic reviews from others at the same gig I was at!)
I have the same feeling about seeing The Sonics. I'm going to Le Beat Bespoke more in hope than expectation, despite the rave reviews from Cavestomp, if they aren't good there are still enough good bands on the bill to more than make the ticket price worthwhile.
I doubt very much that Galway will be included in a Zombies tour with The Yardbirds, very few acts come here. I enjoyed The Yarbirds when I saw them last year but they probably should be called From The Yardbirds!

I never really get the mentality of people expecting these types of shows to completely blow your mind or even come close to shows that get hyped in recent years with high & heavy production. Most of the time, you're lucky to be pleasantly surprised seeing older groups and all the better if the band actually exceeds your expectations. It's not like any group is going to sound or pull off a show like they would in their prime. They have more problems, 40+ years later from the age & health aspect to stamina and the normal technical difficulties.

The Zombies still pull off a good show, think it was 2002 when I saw them. Quite some time ago. 1967 it ain't & still I don't think you'll be disappointed. Nobody can tell you if you're going to get your monies worth because all of our standards are different. I'm happy shelling out the dough to hear the music & songs I love and to physically see the groups in a live atmosphere before it's too late.

P.S. You could hold off until May to see them on tour with the Yardbirds (Chris Dreja, Jim McCarty, Ben King, John Idan and Billy Boy Miskimmin) or when they unite with KISS for a special performance of "God Gave Rock & Roll To You".

The Zombies are playing here in Galway next month as part of the 40th Anniversary of Oddessey & Oracle tour. Tickets are a bit steep at nearly €30, so I was wondering if anyone had seen them on previous dates on this tour and if they are worth seeing.
Practically all the 60s bands I've seen over the past few years have been piss poor, mostly just too old to cut it anymore, are The Zombies any different?

I saw From The Jam in Galway. I went with a sceptical mind but ended up really enjoying the gig. If you go for the nostalgia value and are into The Jam, then you'll have a good time. Just don't take it too seriously (as most people did on The Paul Weller forum when the bands name was announced).
I agree with Lost soul reagrding Weller, never met the man so don't know what he is like as a person but his solo music is boring MOR shite.

Recently I found a link to an old WFMU show hosted by the Hound. I've been listening to these a lot. The focus is mainly on underground rockabilly/hillbilly and R&B sleaze. A little over 20 years later most of the stuff is pretty familiar, but it's still great programing. Tim Warren, Billy Miller and the "Haze" himself all make appearances. http://thehound.net/

Dude I believe it is silicon transistors. It's a really good fuzz if you got a warm guitar. It is a little too bright for my tele. Sounds great with my Harmony H75! It's $100 plus shipping on ebay.

I've had to flog nearly all my pedals over the years and am down to a Danelctro overdrive, Mutron Phasor - which is marvey sounds like a Jet Plane and has a 3 pin plug on the end of it! and Holy Grail Reverb. I had an original Tonebender about 15 yrs ago on loan but the guy took it back - have been chasuing its sound ever since - has anyone got the British MUFFin from Electro harmonix as sounds V good in the on-line demos but I haven't tried one out in the flesh. I mainly use a Tele and Fender Amp so am open to suggestion/ideas for a cool thick ish fuzz.

I just finished the 33 1/3 book and it does indeed isolate a period in their career, but that's my favorite period. As far as the earlier Kinks era is concerned I don't know what's out there.
But I do recommend the 33 1/3 book as it discusses Peter Quaife's decision to leave the band. In fact, Quaife and Mick Avory have quite a lot to say that's important. If you want to know the secrets behind a band, talk to the rhythm section.
