Every 3 weeks I do a series of shows I call the "Alphabetical Series" where I randomly draw a letter of the alphabet from a hat. Whatever letter I draw, I take all the bands and artists in my collection (from the 50's, 60's & 70's only) that start with that letter and play them in strict alphabetical order one by one until I run out of time. This week I drew the letter "M". This is the seventh time I've drawn the letter "M", so I will start from where I left off on show #6 (which was with Merriday Park). We're based in the North East - been rehearsing since last year. Done a couple of gigs this year. So far we play about 20 odd Nugget-y gems, and have 7 or 8 original numbers, too. No recordings done yet other than mics left running in rehearsals, but we're planning on doing some studio recordings for a self-financed 7" or something towards the end of the year, once we've got some decent stage-time under our belts.

Persian Claws (Vermont)

The Love Me Nots (Arizona)

And you're probably familiar with Shannon and the Clams.

Now that I think about it,  there's an impressive number of women in the garage punk scene nowadays.

As far as female-fronted garage punk, two of my current favorites are right here on the Hideout.  Highly recommended!

Hi there, for Cramps type bands there's a great Japanese female punk rock 'n' roll band called The 5678s who are great if you've never checked them out. Also, as dave recommended, The Scientists are great - also the first album Kim Salmon made after the Scientists with his band The Surrealists called 'Hit Me With the Surreal Feel' - has some cool, lo-fi cramps style covers of 50s-early 60s stuff.

For more female-fronted garage punk, there was a great band in Bangkok a while ago called Pussy and the Learjets - there are some cool clips of them on YouTube and they released one 7'' single with Metal Postcard Records.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations, it's a shame though that the Scientists and Gore Gore Girls are already disbanded (hopefully there are more bands like them active these days) but anyways I really appreciate it.

If there are any more current female fronted/all female garage rock/punk bands I'd love to hear them too (but by that I don't mean to let the bands with guys out!).

18. Generics...I Wanted To Be A Punk...from Slippery's Club Hits, the cassette that comes with WW 24. And speaking of WW24, thanx to all those that came up and said hi and bought a copy at the London Indy Media Fair last weekend!! There was a young girl, maybe  15, saw the zine and asked 'is that like Radio What Wave??' I was kinda shocked and answered yes and she was familiar with the show and said it was one of her faves!! And we thought it was only old guys reliving their youth listening to this show!! Or maybe it was just a dream....after all it was kind of a long day sitting at the table.

19. Black Jasper...Just Die Fast...from the Scum Of The Moon CD. Black Jasper are Jasper and King Khan playing 70's KBD punk rock.

hey, i'm glenn and i'm just getting started on this site. i first got into rock n roll in 1967, right after the 'garage band era' of the mid 60's. i saw rock and roll die out (commercially at least by 1970) and started getting into other types of music at the time. i was happy when i first heard punk on kroq back in 1977 and it was like a breath of fresh air, or whatever it was ;) i started my radio show in 1995 and have been on once a week doing a rock n roll/punk show ever since then. it's been really fun, but i'd like to change to an an all-garage format, which would exclude all the hardcore and classic punk that i've been playing all these years. i'll miss it when i get my new show soon, but we can all probably agree on this site that 60's and retro garage punk is the best of all ;) hope to chat with some garage rockers on here soon and thanks for this site.
