You could argue for the Black Lips but I can't see it in the White Stripes.  Sure Jack White's background was in garage rock but the White Stripes were always a very commercial sounding band which for me is very un-garage punk.  Its nothing against Jack White but the White Stripes were always a band designed to sell millions of records.  For me personally a part and parcel of garage punk is to not be that.

I read the feature and I thought the big names were inserted to attract readers. Mind you, they got King Khan accurately and gave him the credit he was due.

Radio What Wave Playlist November 6/2014

First off, Huge Thanx to everyone that came out to our monthly Rock'n'Roll Rent Party last sunday!! Not only did The Mongrels meet the challenge from the Boy From Nowhere to meet or beat their $50 pledge to CHRW, but the crowd at the event put in another $100!!!! Yep, a grand total of $150 for CHRW!! Thanx to all!

And on tonite's show, we've got a couple of special guests, we've got FenyxFyre and Tyler Stewart. FenyxFyre is a sideshow freak artist....meaning he can breathe fire, swallow swords, eat glass, stick foreign objects into his body and do tricks with chainsaws among other feats. In other words, this guy is the real deal as he's recently appeared on AMC Freakshow!!! And he is going to be appearing at an event that Tyler Stewart is promoting at Gordy's Brewhouse.

9. Wilko Johnson....Keep It To Myself...from the Going Back Home CD. WIlko was diagnosed with terminal cancer and wasn't expected to live for long. He beat the cancer and is now clean!!!! Congrats to Wilko!!!! Maybe, just maybe rock'n'roll is the cure for cancer!!!

10. Cream....Dance The Night Away....from Disreali Gears LP. This goes out to Jack Bruce who passed away about a week ago. Cream were my absolute fave band back in 1968/69 and introduced me to the blues at a really young age! And this particular LP, I've owned since about 1970 and used to play the shit out of it!

11. Cream....Those Were The Days....from the Wheels Of Fire LP. Another LP I've owned since the early 70's.

12. Terminals....Spiderman....from the We Killed cassette and goes out to regular listener Dan.

Radio What Wave Playlist Oct 30/2014    Annual Fundraising Show for CHRW

This is the once a year fund raising show we do for CHRW. This year the goal is $8000 which we hope to use for the purchase of video equipment for our live to airs, general repair of the onair studio and various other things that our normal funding doesn't cover. With me during this show, was the one and only Phil A O'Soul, host of The Lucky 7 Soul Show heard every Wed at 7AM, right here on CHRW. I also did a guest slot on Phil's show and it was a blast!!

13. Pacanormal....Heaven Can Wait....from the recently released Restless EP. This combo played the most recent Rock'n'Roll Rent Party and surprised a lot of folks with their sound and show!

14. Lionel Lodge....Resurrection of MV...from his recent The Agitator CD. Lionel was in London Ontario for the summer, but has moved back to Austria.

15. Fireball Grant...York Hotel....recorded live to air on our Halloween Show back in 2013. Fireball is a local one man band that plays around town and is well worth checking out.

16. Frankie and Jimmy....Let It Rock...from their Scream The Blues LP. Hamilton duo who will be in London at Black Shire Pub Nov 7th....more info on F&J and catl (who are also on the bill) on next week's show.

17. O Lendario Chucrobillyman....Chicken Flow....from the Album CD, on Fon Fon/Off Label Records. This crazy one man band is from Brazil, but tours the world.

18. The Mogs...Run Like Hell...from the El'Mogamundo! CD on WW Records. This goes out to our good pal Rob Munro who passed away this summer. This was Rob's combo that he started in the early 90's, resurrected just over a year ago, and finally released a CD.

19. Tuerto Loco....Nancy Sinatra....recorded live to air on Radio WW 5/12/2011. One of our current fave local combos that are well worth checking out!

Hmmmm....I have'nt studied it enough to give you an informed answer , really , except that I know the group , Prussian Blue , is very big , and they're far more  Pop - oriented. I only heard a bit of them in a documentary.

It's sort of odd that there's White Supremacist Rockabilly , as Rockabilly was born out of a love by Southern White (mostly) males for Black culture. It was about being an individual , not part of a herd , and that was like wearing a big sign that read "BEAT MY ASS !!".

I left Dallas before the (neo - Nazi) skinheads more or less dispersed , or got into other things . I hear that some of them got into Rockabilly , much later , because it was White and Southern. Some of the ex - Punk Rockabilly guys  in Dallas were pretty racist , too , but , I think most people saw the blatant contradiction.

But , Rockabilly music was always , pretty much , apolitical , neither left nor right - leaning.     I don't think there were any blatantly racist 'billy bands in Dallas in the late 80's and 90's , but , I was'nt around. I knew several of the musicians , none of them seemed that way to me. Just songs about cars and girls . A wella wella wella , uh baby , baby  baby.....

I read the article and found it confusing that hate music is crossing into genres that were terra incognita a few years ago. Confusing because I noticed that there were genres that would be anathema, but it shows how hypocritical they are, I guess.

As I noted earlier , Phil May from The Pretty Things has been hospitalized with severe breathing difficulty. He's been diagnosed with COPD , a serious disease of the lungs. 

Mike Stax , at Ugly Things , has stated that he believes a recovery is very possible , but ,  what Phil needs , now , is words of encouragement from his fans. REAL words , on paper , as Phil is not a computer person. Stax especially asks anyone who's kicked the bottle or drugs or cigarettes to share their experiences with May , as he needs to be reminded that he's better and BADDER than any of those things. I'm not , and Mike is'nt , implying that Phil has issues with all three.

Pretty Things fans , and God knows there must be MANY on The Hideout , are implored to write to Phil May and tell him what his music has meant to you , and that his work is not over , that , in Mike's words , he needs to turn himself back over to art and music.

Letters will be sent , sealed , to May's home in London.
