    • Hell Yeah! That Panic is fantastic! I only recently heard of them. I was in Amsterdam this past spring and I always try and find out about local bands wherever I travel. Somebody suggested I check’em out. I was unable to find any of their records. What is the one you got? I think the singer, Peter ten Seldam was in several bands. Check out this video; doesn’t it look like just about the greatest time ever!!!! Such a party!!!

    • Weird....I was just about to say that I bought an album by a band called Panic last week. But they're dutch, and from '78.

    • Listening to Panic. Reminds ME of Pere Ubu , and I have'nt even heard the singer , yet. There he is. Yep , sounds like Dave Thomas to me , too.....

I had no idea Simply Saucer were still playing out , but , sort of assumed they still regrouped when they felt like it.   They're one of many "So Rare , it Should'nt Have Happened" gigs at The Empty Bottle in Chicago , that I missed. Others included Death (I just missed them again , only because I forgot they were playing.) , Teenage Jesus and The Jerks , and a brief side projet between Sterling Morrisson and Maureen Tucker ,shortly before the former passed on. I did see Ya Ho Wa 13 , there , that falls under the category of shows that almost should'nt have happened.   It's a real pain in the ass to get to that venue on public transportation , especially in teh winter , but , every so often , they throw us non - Alt Rockers a bone.

This really does sound like early Ubu with a slightly different instrumental set up. That's not a bad thing !

    • Ah, that makes sense. Andrew is still in our practice space, but with a new band and Catl are no longer there. I just assumed they dissolved. I will have to check out the new lineup.

Yeah, I will definitely try and grab that Panic album. I can probably have the owner set it aside for me anyway. I wish I had heard of them yesterday. Although I didn’t even know Simply Saucer were playing, which would have been cool to see. The downfall of not being on facebook.

    • Matt: Grab the Panic LP if you can, don't think they pressed many. And Panic played a show with Simply Saucer somewhere in Toronto last night....facebook told me so, so it must be true!!

catl did break up for awhile when their drummer Andrew (from the Deadly Snakes) left the band. They are now a 2 piece w/Sarah on the drumbs/vocals and Jamie on guitar/vocals. Way more primitive than they used to be, think you'd dig them.

    • Hey! I just saw that Panic album down the street. Unfortunately I didn't have the money (10 bucks, how sad) to buy it. If it is still there in a few days I will probably grab it.

    • July 19, 2014 11:24 AM CDT
    • This Panic is interesting. The singer sort of sounds like Dave Thomas (Ubu). Cool stuff.

We shared a practic space with Catl at one point. Seen them play live a few times, they were really good. They split up, I think due to a couple within the band breaking up.

I've heard about the new Simply Saucer, but have yet to hear any tracks off of it. I'll definitely be picking that album up when it's out.

    • Here's a coupla new records that i've blown my wad to:

catl....This Shakin' House LP on CATL Records. 2 piece blues/rock'n'roll combo outta Toronto. Drumbs, guitar and vocals with some added harp/keybd/banjo to fill out the sound on this, their 4th LP. Slightly more produced than previous, but still raw and alive enough to keep me intested. Way different than their live show which is a dance and sweat marathon of good times.  This is a band that would should be on the Voodoo Rhythm label.

Panic...Bad Fantasies....self released by a bunch of veterans of the garagepunk wars from Toronto. Sounds like a bad LSD trip prior to suicide as all coping mechanisms are lost and there's only one thing left to do....here's a link to give it a listen.

      http://soundofpanic.bandcamp.com/

There's also a brand new Simply Saucer 12" just out called Baby Nova. Recorded in Detroit w/Jim Diamond and out on Schizophrenic records from Hamilton Ontario Canada. I've got a download, but need the real deal for the full sonic assault.

    • ....STERN ,      Thank you , I forgot his last name. And , you're right , Dee Dee , reportedly , identified as Bi , but dug women more than men.  Right again about Fields and Vega , too , but , that's just what I read in an interview with Stern.... That he was openly Gay , and it caused some friction.....I don't think he said with whom , but , gee , I wonder.

Yeah , as I say , there WAS an interview where Richie talked about the early Ramones , as well as the Nuns , but , I forget where I saw it. It seems a couple of stories he told were confirmed by Dee Dee in other interviews , like Dee Dee's Mom threatening to ruin his Stooges records.   It's been a long time since I saw the article ,  so my memory may not be 100% accurate. But , I remember Richie saying , for various reasons , he did'nt get along with the others , tho' maybe not all of them.

There was a show in '77 in San Francisco that predated The Sex Pistols' last show - The Ramones , The Dictators , and The Nuns  (It just now dawned on me , both The Pistols and The Beatles gave their farewell performances in San Francisco.). My Sister - in - Law was there.

The conceptualist , that he was . I like that , that's good.

    • July 24, 2014 9:43 AM CDT
    • I didnt know Ritche Stern was gay. Not that it matters...but it's definitely a tidbit i was unaware of! Strange anyone would have a problem with it though, considering Dee Dee was most likely bi, and Arturo and Danny Fields were both gay, aren't they?

Hard to find any info on the first Ritchie.. Strange nobody ever did an interview with him. It's easier to find info on Ira Nagel (the other possible Ramones bassist in the beginning) than it is Ritchie Stern.

Really sucks about Tommy. Obviously not the songwriter, but he was definitely the conceptualist of the band.

    • Dave , Well , of course , when I wrote it (The lyrics , anyway.) Derek was barred from playing in the states .  The ban was lifted about four years ago , and he's played Chicago twice since then. There was a big welcome back show with Bloodshot Bill , NoBunny, Tandoori Knights , and White Mystery. I had already made plans to go to Mexico at that time. Derek did invite me to play on the show , for THAT , I would have cancelled my vacation , but , he thought all I would have to do was tell the owner I'd like to play , too , and he'd put me on the bill .  IF ONLY.    Then , he came back , and opened for Jon Spencer. I should have gone to that gig , but I DID'NT WANT TO PAY SPENCER'S PRICE TO SEE BLOODSHOT BILL DO AN ABBREVIATED SET. (excuse the caps. It's late...).

Now that Bloodshot Bill is PERE Bloodshot Bill , with a beautiful little girl , it seems like he still gigs as much , but has to reroute his trips. I guess. I did talk to him , briefly , about possibly returning to Chicago , and he said he does want to come back , soon.

So , if that happens , Chicago will witness the return of Bloodshot Battles Overdrive.

    • John Battles says

Bloodshot Bill - we want him in the USA . BLOODSHOT BILL , MAKE IT SOONER THAN TODAY.

John: you get him way more than we do in sleepy London Ontario...Bloodshot Bill has done several east coast tours and spots for Norton Records lately. Seems like he's constantly touring, maybe he's just avoiding Chicago and sleepy London Ontario for some bizarre reason....

    • HAPPY , BELATED , CANADA DAY...

I could send you my reworking of "Back In The USA" AS "BLOODSHOT BILL (BACK IN THE USA)", which I did in protest to his being banned from the US for 5 years . It's irrelevant , now , of course , THANKFULLY.

"Vancouver , Toronto , Saskatoon , Montreal . He plays his real Rockabilly , and everybody has a ball.   But , for the next five years , we won't be seeing him at all.

Now , Canada's our friend , and , buddy , that's a fact. But , they're still in the habit of importing their very worst acts. When Bloodshot Bill's got so much talent , you can buy it by the sack.

Now , he's rockin' and a - ravin' in the land of the deer and the beers - But they won't let my buddy crash on my couch for five years.   You know , there ain't no draft , but , Uncle Sam stripped his gears.

Bloodshot Bill - we want him in the USA . BLOODSHOT BILL , MAKE IT SOONER THAN TODAY.

You know , he rocks like Charlie Feathers , he's as suave as Johnny Hallyday , eh , eh , ehhhhhhh......

All you music lovers out there, I guess like me you buy a ton of magazines as well as records, Which are the best magazines/fanzines to send review copies of my latest release. (The Snails / Garage rock from Greece, great stuff).
or simply whats your favorite magazine/fanzine.

As its on vinyl is cost a fortune to post, I can't afford to sending it to magazines that won't review but will run down to there local second hand record store.

looking forward to some replys and thanks for your help!

    • Howie Pyro, Hideout member and wildman behind the INTOXICA! radio podcasts, is now a contributing writer for Dangerous Minds. Check out the piece he wrote for them a couple of days ago on Kim Fowley's birthday HERE.

      Way to go, Howie!

Here's a picture of Howie in front of some "vinyls"...

    • The Amazing Snakeheads
      Amphetamine Ballads
      Domino Records

The Amazing Snakeheads Amphetamine Ballads are all that is wrong and right about the commercialization garage and rock-a-billy, 'You aint gonna turn it off because it's better than the radio, you didn't download the latest podcast, and you kind of like it." Firmly on the side of Nick Cave's Grinderman, but parrying the spirit of Lux, Jim Heath, and even a little Tav Falco (to get the southern boys on board) in places. The A' Snakeheads got the rock star looks and Euro pedigree that Domino Records love in their bands (sans the Archie Bronson Outfit). With that comes the slick thump on the propulsive, reverb drenched tracks like "I'm a Vampire", and "Flatlining". The Vimeo ready tunes like 'Where is my Knife" just begs for a black and white video with tatooed girls behaving badly. Interspersed with the three piece making the rest of us look plain and themselves sounding sweet if not growly.

To be fair/ foewwarned it veers a little too far down Arctic Monkey Lane at times and none more so than "Memories" and the stream of concious "Heading for a Heartbreak" that will leave you screaming for Winger. At times you almost begin to wonder why you kept listening and make you wonder, "if this isn't my cup of tea why am I listening?" Still you may not turn it off...

Still we need to provide more gateway drugs, more informercials to get us back/ lure others to the Cramps, Rockabilly, and southern sounds of the Panther Burns. The White Stripes are gone, bands like Ex-Cult only happen once in a blue moon, and we have the internet. So, please allow me to introduce The Amazing Snakeheads...

    • This sounds great. I thought it'd be more acoustic. "Like , man , what kind of fool am I?" , as Sammy would say. Oh , yeah , and he'd punctuate that by saying , "Dig.".  They ran my press release for Pierced Arrows with this broadcast , that's cool.

I heard from Fred a few days ago. He's doing fine , will still need to take it easy , of course , but there's no doubt in his mind , mine , and , I trust , yours , he'll be coming on harder and stronger before we know it.

Look what I just found screwing around at the Free Music Archives:

It's a Fred & Toody duet set on WFMU last December . Sounds pretty good. Free download or just listen there.

    • Just wanted to update everyone that I've been busier than expected this month and haven't even begun to download or listen to any of the songs submitted for this volume, and I frankly don't see that happening in the next few weeks, either. So that means there is still time to get your band included if you've yet to submit a song! So yes, we're still taking submissions. Go for it.

      Thanks,
