    • So far the only review on Amazon is a positive one, but this comment is a bit strange:

There is a surf song on here but the majority of this comp is pretty rockin.

Like a surf song can't be rockin'? Er, OK... I kinda wish we had MORE surf bands submitting tracks! But, whatever.

Anyone else want to write a review of it?

    • Am listening to the comp right now.  Thanks to Kopper and everyone else involved in this (so far) excellent compilation - as if it would be anything but.

    • I'm attaching the printable CD insert here for you guys for Vol. 1. This has a song list on the back side, so when you fold it and insert it into one of those slimline jewel cases, you'll have a track listing.

    • Which link is locking up your computer? I am not going to post direct links here because I only want these downloadable for free for members. Make sense?

    • Little Steven only got richer off his early move on "garage rock". I have nothing against the guy, I think he's done a lot for that slice of the musical universe (plus he played one of my favorite characters from The Sopranos).

Kopper, you should try to become his protoge and cash-in by riding his coat-tails. I'm not saying you should "sell-out" or go commercial (as I'm sure a lot of haters will accuse you of that, if it were to happen), but you could partner with him and do the "garage rock universe" a service by providing your perspective, and the garagepunk.com perspective, to the masses.

    • Haha, yeah, now there's quite a huge army of bands in the pool that contribute to this. I mean would you have thought that there was no less than SIX (!) comps to be filled with awesome Rock'N'Roll? That a LOT! And all in six months - we are spoiled.

    • I'm kicking myself that it took me five years to think to do something like this! Guess I've got Little Steven to thank for that, huh? ;)

i was doing a full cd design for myself but can share it with all the other punks here at the hideout if someone else want to print it and put it on a cd case...

but what do you think? each artist draw is own, or you think it's better to draw a generic back cover and change the tracklist and band contacts for each volume?...

if you need any help, i'm around here... :)

    • I like to write words when i already have music to the song that i'm working on. then you can write stuff that fits in the music, rather than starting with a poem or phrases and forcing them to fit the music. i usually playback the music and babble into the mic, recording the babble if possible. then I listen back to the music and low level babble together, and somehow I start hearing words and rhythms out of the mush. If i get a few lines, then I can usually start a weird story out of it... Using a rhyme dictionary is also helpful, plenty online sites offering that service. and... I do suggest a bit drugs and alcohol, helps slip out of your skin so you don't get too sappy or bitter, or more sappy and more bitter... :)

    • I heard that Dave will play with Ray but not Mick Avory.  Maybe Dave and Ray could play together with Kenny Jones and John Dalton or Andy Pyle.

    • Speaking of old garage fests, does anyone remember the FuzzFests? I think this was the first one:

      http://www.cheepskatesmovie.com/id51.html

How many of those were there? And weren't there other FuzzFest offshoots in other towns later on, like in the '90s and early '00s?

I just think people are way too worried if something is "punk" or not. Who fuckin' cares? Life's too short to worry about stupid shit like that. Just enjoy the music for what it is.

    • Yeah, this is great stuff that I've never heard before. I'd also love to hear the first volume if anyone can find it...

    • April 13, 2011 9:52 AM CDT
    • They aren't two volumes of the same compilation, but two separate records in the same series, so they weren't a package deal. I imagine the first volume is equally hard to find.

    • April 13, 2011 9:38 AM CDT
    • Thanks! But what about the first volume?

    • Details: http://www.victimoftime.com/articles/hozac-blackout-fest-returns-chicago/

That's right fine people of the Internet, HoZac Records was requested to curate the BLACKOUT Fest once again and since it had been five long years since the last one, we figured it was worth a shot. No more of the four-six day marathon standing/leaning/drinking/puking all in the same room monotony (where even your favorite bands on earth can sound bland), it's now cooked down to just TWO DAYS of bands, which makes the whole "fest" experience so much more tolerable, and we know you'll agree.

May 27-28th 2011 at Chicago's most sophisticated ballroom, THE VELVET PERINEUM in Logan Square (venue holds 500+).

There will be 250 "golden tickets" for discounted Friday/Saturday entry, details below.
      Friday 5/27:

      The Spits
      The Brides
      K-Holes
      TV Ghost
The Happy Thoughts (debut LP available at the show!)
Mickey (debut LP available at the show!)
      Squish

      Saturday 5/28:
Nervous Eaters (the original mid-70s Boston punk band!)
      Nobunny
Tutu & the Pirates (Chicago's 1st recorded punk band from '77 : Gizmos meets The Damned)

      Idle Times
      Reading Rainbow
      People's Temple
