    • Hey ev'rybody.

I'm very new here but have loved the podcasts for a while. Hence I want to try my hand at doing one myself. I have a lot of good music from podsafe but I have a lot of classic stuff I want to play too (Monks, Sonics, Screamin' Jay possibly). I have all this stuff on Cd and iTunes so would it be illegal slap those up there?

      Many thanks,

      Fashdad.

    • I bought the Cocksucker Blues lp at a record convention back when I was 15 or 16, when single discs were $5 and doubles were $10. The Stones owed one more single to their record company at the time(maybe Abcko?) and they could get out of their contract, so they gave them something vile and thoroughly unreleaseable..."Cocksucker Blues." Side One "Cocksucker Blues"; "Brown Sugar"(Eric Clapton on guitar and Al Kooper on french horn);"Jumping Jack Flash"; "Love in Vain"; "Sweet Virginia" Side Two "As Tears Go By"(in Italian); "Exile on Main St. Blues"; "You Can't Always Get What You Want"; "Midnight Rambler" ratoonie said:

This is a great discussion by the way. I was reading in my local paper (for Vashon, WA) that they cancelled the high school prom due to low ticket sales. Why low ticket sales? Because the school banned grinding, which isn't even dancing as far as I'm concerened. I can't understand how it is that kids can't learn real dancing, even Washington DC go go styles. I'm starting to think that watching Shindig and Hullabaloo should be a school requirement.

As long as it isn't "Hootenany."

    • The maximum wattage on a guitar amp is a little more important than that of a bass amp. Guitarists like power tube distortion, and ass such need to run their amp at near maximum volume to get "tone" out of them. Many bassists either want no distortion, or use a pedal to get their sound.
That said, a head an 4X10 may still be a bit too aggressive for the situation, but a 50 watt combo with a single twelve-inch speaker would probably work quite well. And if you can beg/borrow/steal an Ampeg portaflex with a single twelve-inch speaker, you'll be in heaven.

      Hi,

For practising and small gigs, I use a 100 Ampeg reclinable AMP (can't remember which one precisely). It's dead good but only if the venue's big, obviously you need to mic up or DI.

I also used to - before it got stolen backstage during a gig - have a presonus pre-amp (blue one with just two knobs gain and volume) - that works really well to give it a kick - increases definition as well as warming up the grain (dunno how that works in terms of logic, but that's the effect it seemed to have - eh)...

We play 60's garage and that's the amp I take on tour.

    • Hi,
We're looking at getting a bass amp to go with our 'quiet' garage/powerpop combo. The cheaper the better. After combing the net I still can't totally get my head around the wattage required for our needs - it looks like 100 is best but if I can get away with less please let me know.

Our drums are a cocktail kit - so very quiet compared to a normal kit and the guitar is through a 5w Valve through a 12" speaker - cranked and fuzzed it is a good match for the drums. The bass is an old soviet plank with weak pickups - probably will run it through a bass big muff.
Would 50W bass amp be too little for this situation?

      Thanks!

if it's worth seeing, or if it's worse or better than the other one about Cadillac Records.

Yeah, Mystery Train is a classic. Joe Strummer, Steve Buschemi and Screamin' Jay Hawkins in the same movie? You can't fail!

It really did suck. The actor that played Curtis just mumbled a bunch and danced like Boris Karloff.
Joe Strummer was really good in Mystery Train though, especially love the scene where he shoots Rockets Redglare in the liquor store.

    • Here is an unheard version of a band I played in called The Get Lost (featuring Gerry Mohr of The Miracle Workers) doing our take of "Guess I'm Falling In Love "

    • August 29, 2010 6:21 AM CDT
    • "Guess I'm Falling In Love " is the B-side with "Get home girl" on the A-side. I think you can get it through Norton, as I think I saw this single for sale at the A-Bones merchandising table last year. I saw it also on the Crypt mailorder not long ago. Sometimes it comes out on eBay. If you want the easy way, get the A-Bones Cd compilation "Daddy wants a cold beer". "Guess I'm falling in love" is there, but not the A-side, which appears on the "Music minus five" album. Esgar acelerado said:

hei, how can i get my hands on that?...

A great version was also released by my old faves the A-Bones on a 7" (Bedrock, 1993), that was "recorded on cassette at rehearsal". No vocals, though.

    • Go Go dancers are getting pretty popular at the Continental Club in Austin, TX (there is one gal there that has super groove) and Freddie Steady Krc has a rockin' gal "Dangerous Dana" who really adds some serious energy to his shows and is authentic in dress and dance. All that said there was a dancer at the last Sons of Hercules show who was super foxy looking but couldn't dance - it was like she came from a strip club and only knew how to bend and shake - no art in that : (
