I like over half the bands John hates. Not huge on Stickmen, but the Bobby Soxx with Learn To Hate/ Scavenger of Death single kills, I like all Black Flag up to My War and then even a lot of stuff after, but the albums got less interesting, KISS - I like the first 6 albums, Black Metal is too borad, but I like a lot of Black Metal bands... anyway, to each their own. 

I guess U2 is a band I activly hate hate. Can't escape Bono. 

 

 

Vice? That was the inspiration for Sugar Ape in "Nathan Barley". Anyway, most of the more Nathan Barley bands kind of get on my nerves sometimes, but there are good ones too. Fuck Buttons are quite Nathan Barley, the name just reeks of it.

I guess they figure younger people will relate to that...   It does'nt even sound like teen angst .   "Smells like  Pre - Teen NAPPY !"

On the good news front , guess what? I found teh Viz second "Big Pink Hard ONE" book a few days ago! I could'nt believe it ! I have the first book , that's how I got absorbed The Viz Vacuum , some 25 years ago.   God ! They're so primitive. There's only a half page , each , on Sid The Sexist and Biffa Bacon.       We're getting Viz again , here in Chicago. When Tower Records closed , no one carried it for years. But ,  I generally only buy it if there's a Sid , a Roger NELLIE AND/OR BIFFA BACON. Still love Modern Parents and Fat Slags.....BUT , I saw the new issue the same day I found that book from 1989.....The differnce was like .......well , it was like Pete Shelley , Knox , Leonard Grave Phillips , Eugene Reynolds and other people who can carry a tune , and this WHINGING Pop- pUNK.   NO , THAT'S NOT FAIR. THE NEW VIZ IS FINE , JUST A LOT MORE SLICK.                 

Why is pop punk so whinging? What would happen if you played something like The Sonics or "Sliced Tomatoes" by The Just Brothers?

I LIKE THAT. "BED WETTING BANDS". THAT'S HOW I'VE FELT ABUT PUNK POP/VAN'S WARPED TOUR BANDS......BUT. while I was once a teenage boy , myself , in my teens , Punk might have been dead , might have been , but it was so recent , they were still paying off the burial expenses and headstone fees.   In about '97 , I was at a party of mostly underage drinkers. Oh , yes , I blew the whistle on 'em -" help. police. help". But they were playing all this terrible whiney , wet mypants PUNK POP GARBAGE. Sure , maybe I was just too old to get it , but , I had to think , these kids have access to all these great reissues of original 70'S pUNK stuff that I DID'NT HAVE. It WAS SIMPLY CALLED "oUT OF PRINT" , MUCH OF IT , BY THE EARLY TO MID 80's.

Plus , I thought , Punk Pop . or Pop Punk(As we used to call it.) , The Dickies could eat these bands for breakfast (And find a cool prize at the bottom of the box.), too say nothing of The Vibrators , Rezillos , Buzzcocks , Boys , Lurkers , etc.      Just then , a Dickies song came on , proving my point. To myself , anyway.

Disagree with a few here. Green Day, as long as we're talking everything up to Nimrod - all went quickly downhill from there in a big stadium-sized shit bowl! Think the first few records were great punk-pop. Gotta say though that they'll always hold a special place as they were my first concert - Dookie tour when I was 13. Black Lips as well I think are greatand Nirvana, well can't hold their Shitleback-spawning legacy against them!

Shit bands are easy to list. Recently Coldplay and every other bedwetting band that came along on their coat-tails. They really wanna be U2, and have comptition from the Kings Of Leon, who I thought could've done something great, but when the stadiums and cash beckons they showed their true colours. 

Anything decidely emo or rock-rap = sheiiiiiiite!!!

My first band at 13 were called Condemned Utopia. Then had Nothing Yet at 16, christened when we plugged a gig in The Big Issue in the UK and didn't have a name. When asked what we were called, our bassist replied, "nothing yet", and so we were. It lasted one gig till he discovered Kula Shaker and changed the name to Djin.

No European dates yet? Hmmm

Ooh... that sounds like fun! I'd consider making the trip for that. Dunno of any fests like that around here. There's mods and rockers (would have to check the dates) in LA annually, for the most part, and there's the roots music fest (Adams Ave Street Fair) in SD, in the fall I think, but, other than that, I don't know of too many things out this way. There was a garage-ish fest here in SD a year or two ago... I should see if that's happening again, and if so, I'll post the info. And I'm going to Coachella (in Indio, CA) in May, for what that's worth.

Muddy Roots is not a "garage" festival, per se. In fact, it started out as an "underground country" festival.

But this year's line-up includes The Sonics (!!!!), Mudhoney, The Monsters, Rev. Beat-Man, The Blasters, The Weirdos, Legendary Shack Shakers, Left Lane Cruiser, etc. 

It's Aug. 29 -31 in Cookesville, TN

I would love to be able to find dirt cheap flights for Burgerama in March. And I did find dirt cheap flights to Orlando for Florida is Dying earlier in March but I would have to miss too much work during a new-hire probationary period.

I've been in exile for far too long, so please, post what's happening when and where, and maybe I can make arrangements to attend (and hopefully, you can, too!).

There was supposed to be a hockey game starting at this time. Then there was a big argument in the background as some piece of equipment wasn't working and it was going to screw up the game broadcast. As always, mass confusion makes for a better radio show....hahahaha

15. Junkhouse...Praying For The Rain....from a promo CD that came in a box of beer, hence the cheesy intro to this one. Tom Wilson, who is in Blackie and The Rodeo Kings was vocalist/guitarist for this combo.

16. Junkhouse...Hello Mystery...from a 1992 zine called Cool Soundzine, that came out of Hamilton. As did almost all of the bands on tonite's show.

17. Junkhouse...Jet Trash....from the Fuzz CD. There's some killer guitar sonics on this release and believe it or not, this combo got lots of play on the local yokel FM stations in sleepy London Ontario....and they would pack Call The Office regularly and singer Tom Wilson would yell out 'What Wave' as he spotted us in the crowd and the crowd wouldn't have a clue what he was talking about....hahaha...

18. Florida Razors...Let's Go...from the Beat Music LP. Hamilton based rock'n'roll band that had Tom Wilson as vocalist and guitarist.

20. Radio 4....I Don't Wanna Go To New York City....local combo from the early 80's and it's on Slippery's Club Hits, the cassette that comes with What Wave 24, available locally and at Star Records in Oshawa.

21. The Only Ones....Another Girl, Another Planet.....Peel demo from Apr 1978....hear the difference between this version and the released version? This one is shorter, no keyboards and slightly more abrasive guitars.

22. The Hippies...Can Teens....from Slippery's Club Hits and had to cut this off as the hockey game was about to start.
