Does anyone else on this site enjoy any music like this? The early ska music (AKA bluebeat), its offshoot, rocksteady, which later morphed into skinhead- and mod-centric reggae music? Guys like Prince Buster, Derrick Morgan, The Maytals, the Wailing Wailers? I figured there was a chance some of the soul fans here would at least dig these sounds.

Ska came from R&B, jazz and boogie woogie, this song's all the evidence you need. Got anymore Jamaican jazz & R&B?

I'm not much on reggae but I really dig the trad ska/bluebeat/rocksteady stuff from the early 60s...slowly realizin' I dig most, if not all, music made from the early 60s (i.e. surf, vocal groups, pop, r'n'r, ska,...the list goes on baby)

Check out this gem, from 1951 (boogie woogie with the ska upbeats!):

I love my reggae...bluebeat/ska/rocksteady/roots/dub/toasting/2-Tone...amazing how one 'small' island created such a musical revolution...

I was just reminded once again of this song earlier today. One of my favorite tunes out of any genre!

Love the older stuff mainly.  Huge old soul fan.  Stormy, Marion Black, Dyke & The Blazers, just to name a few.  I am a drummer in a garage rock band, but have a side Funk Soul Project.  I love the garage vibe, but there is nothing like layin it down with a funk riff.  Puts you in a good mood instantly!

I love this stuff! I also really like the early dub stuff like King Tubby, Prince Fari & Lee Scratch Perry (before he went nuts).

Definitely.  Toots & The Maytals were always my favorites.  Toots Hibbert is a great soul vocalist -- always reminded me of a Jamaican Otis Redding.  A lot of the Trojan Records artists were terrific.

I love ska, especially the mod/skinhead stuff.

I love ska and reggae traditional, skinhead dub…

Found a nice cache of 45s at Goodwill a while back, all late 60s/ early 70s reggae.

This Jackie Paris single was in there…
