    • On Nov. 16th at the Lone Star Film Festival in Fort Worth, TX there will be a first public screening of a new doctumentary called "TEEN A-GO-GO". Initially inspired by the FW Teen Scene comps, this documentary looks at bands formed during the classic garageband period in the mid sixties using interviews, found footage and photos. There are interviews with a lot of really great FW garage bands like the Elite, Larry & the Bluenotes, the Barons; and interviews with other bands from other parts of the country and interesting comments from garagepunk "experts". I've seen it and it was better than I thought it was gonna be (expectations were low since the people that made it aren't really hardcore garagepunk freaks like us). There is some really great old footage in it and some of the interviews and stories are funny. There are some really insightful comments from Ira Robbins (of Trouser Press fame), funnyman Billy Miller, and from Texas writer and Fort Worth native Joe Nick Patowski (this guy really nails it describing why FW had so many cool bands). It was cool hearing so many great songs on the soundtrack (my favorite: "It's Been A Long Journey" by the Roots...Begin argument here about how the Roots weren't from Fort Worth...but it was released on a Fort Worth record label!...sorry, I was having a Garagepunk.com flashback). This probably isn't going to be released theatrically, but may make it to DVD someday. You might be able to see it on your local PBS station eventually (especially in Texas). This thing is not going to knock your socks like you wish it would but it's interesting and fun and there isn't really anything else like it that I know of, so that alone makes it worth seeing for those of us interested in the "garagepunk collecting hobby". • Who out there is touring these days? I am planning a tour to Texas and back to Seattle in March 2009. Any tips, advice or suggestions on places to play (especially in Texas!) Post 'em here.
      Thanks!

    • I thought so too, Sean! This weekend is going to be awesome!

      I haven't seen Girl Trouble since 1995!!

      I'll see you up there!

    • Jeez-Louise, I would have thought that having an opportunity to see the greatest Garage band of the 1960's on their home turf would have stirred up more interest on-line but evidently not??
Whatever, I will be there, as will some people I know. I know of at least seven members of current Garage bands that are traveling from out of state to attend this show.
Girl Trouble are on the bill, which is rad, I haven't seen them for quite a while. There seems to be a popular presumption that The Wailers are going to be playing, but I've seen no evidence of this whatsoever.
I get in to Seattle mid-day Friday, hoping to go to the EMP that day (if you've never been, you should definitely go!), attending the gig, staying overnight, have Saturday open, going to the Dead Ghosts show Saturday night (a house party in a barn in some guys back yard).
      Rocking!

    • I'll be there...

My wife and I will be coming from Los Angeles and arriving on the day of the show. I'm staying the weekend and just hanging around and seeing the city (first time there).

There's going to be TONS of folks from the Bay Area, so it's going to be a total blast! Seattle is going to be invaded by crazy Californians.

    • OK, I'm reviving this dead thread! The date draws nearer. So who here from the Hideout is gonna be in attendance at the gig? If attending: - where are you coming from? When arriving? - plan on doing anything else in Seattle? (I'm thinking of hitting the EMP again) - parties?? Dead Ghosts are playing a house party the following night. Oh yeah, costumes are allowed at the gig now. Wear something comfortable.

    • There is a place on garnet in PB that has quite bit to sift through. I don't remember the name. It is near the thrift shops.

I notice the Kobey's Swap Meet has a lot these days. I think hard times are causing folks to try to unload their stuff.

The old Off The Record by SDSU is long gone. :(

    • it's been awhile so it may not be around anymore, but there was a good Off the Record , not the one downtown, but one by the college if i remember correctly. it had lots of vinyl stuff, and a good selection. the other one was okay, but was filled with alternativos. other than that i've never done much record shopping down there.

    • NOVEMBER 22ND!!!

      BottleTree is TWO YEARS OLD!!!

King Khan & BBQ Show, comprising Montreal-bred musicians Mark Sultan (BBQ) and Blacksnake (King Khan), are known for their riotous live show and eclectic mix of music that smashes together everything from punk rock to doo-wop. Their bio describes them as "Two guys. One smashing a snare, bass drum and tambourine with his bare feet, molesting his guitar and singing like a possessed angel. The other spinning and howling like a freak and belting it out on his guitar like a savage."

Sultan and Blacksnake played together in the Montreal band The Spacesh--s until the punk rockers toured Europe and Blacksnake decided to stay behind in Germany. Sultan moved on with Les Sexareenos and started his one-man band, BBQ, while Blacksnake started King Khan & The Shriners. The two later reunited as a duo, honing their craft with live shows around Germany and Spain, and releasing their self-titled debut in 2005.

This show is for ages 18+. Tickets are $10....AND YES, THERE WILL BE CAKE!
