    • Yeah, they kinda brought us to this place. We supported them once in Germany, and wow, I've never seen such a wild band. And they're cool guys, too! That was one of the best gigs ever.

    • Last Sunday I hosted the my first event in Tokyo which I hope to make into a regular series. My idea for Wayne Manor's HOUSE of MYSTERY is to not only have a savage line-up of Japanese garage & punk bands, but also include sideshow entertainments during intermissions. So last Sunday we were graced by THE FLY's newest fling, belly-dancing princess SHAULA LEE... there was also an arm-wrestling contest featuring the fierce CHRIS the ARM-CRUSHER and little challenger DJ OKD of the demented duo YUKKUM YUKKUM along with psycho-weirdo DJ Mr. DEATH! At the end of the nite I pulled raffle tickets and awarded the prizes like a bobble-head Rat Fink and Doggy Style: The Dogs Tribute, with illustration by Rockin' Jelly Bean! Despite being quite busy 'n getting frazzled trying to keep all the bands on time, play my DJ sets and host these skits, it was all worthwhile!

(CHRIS the ARM-CRUSHER vs KAYO (ex-FALSIES ON HEAT drummer!) & WAYNE MANOR!)

It was also a Bon Voyage party for THE HARPY's who I will actually be flying to NY with for their US tour which kicks off next weekend! I jumped on stage and had an American beer KANPAI with Budweiser to celebrate. Les VIVIAN BOYS played next and gave a very European chic meets Japanese mystique performance. Next I passed out home-made Batman masks and played the original 60's TV soundtrack for a Bat-craze dance party just in time for THEEE BAT to blast a high-power cover of Blue Cheer's "Summertime Blues!" THE FLY & his one-man garbage played his slick garage blues and invited rockabilly double bass & guitar men for a hot tune. ED WOODS freaked out like never before with a frantic room of trash followers, I think Billy showed us his entire collection of Batman dungarees before slipping around on the floor! And ANISAKIS finished up the night with their darkly hyper post-punk that ended in bloody fingers and fretboards. So despite my nerves on the edge of a hectic night, everything turned out very cool. My turbaned head is receiving vibes and I predict the HOUSE of MYSTERY will open its doors once again!

    • it's as easy as booking flights and working with a decent promoter (of which there are a couple i know of at least). don't expect to make money but expect a great time.

hey donkeysack - you have any good local bands there that i could distro their releases?

    • April 15, 2010 2:30 AM CDT

    • Mystery Mondays is a once-a-month DJ event and mini-show I'm starting up at a tiny underground bar in Tokyo called Heavy Sick. They usually feature retro styles like garage punk, neo-rockabilly, mods, etc. The last Monday of every month I will invite a couple DJs and a couple bands to play and spin records. So far the only confirmed band for August 30th is THE LEGS, they have a classic '77 punk sound and I will get another band with an old school sound soon.

Also coming up is a full blown extravaganza with 6 bands, all local Japanese bands including the  redneck zombie trash rocknroll of ED WOODS, the comic book action garage punk of THEEE BAT, the stylish post-punk of ANISAKIS, the Showa-pop garage blend of VIVIAN BOYS, the one-man garbage attack of THE FLY and the surfy indie rock of THE HARPY's who will be heading to NYC the following weekend! If you can't take a plane to get to this show, you should at least google these bands!

    • Wow, sorry to hear that crap is popular there today. I was hoping there'd be more in the way of REAL rock'n'roll... like what you'd find on this site, natch. Miguel Pescaditos said:

    • I see a lot of posts here about bands from South America, but what about Mexico and Central America (Panama to Mexico) as well as the Caribbean Islands?

Obviously, Davila 666 from Puerto Rico would be at the top of my list. Any others from this region of the world we should know about (past or present)?

      Thanks!

    • NO ONE has mentioned Los Shakers from [I think] Uruguay!! At least, if they did, I missed it. First US issue LP, 'Break It All' is a total classic, sounds like the missing link between 'Beatles For Sale' and 'Help!'.

    • April 21, 2010 8:49 PM CDT
    • I can't believe only ONE OTHER PERSON has mentioned Los Saicos. Between 1965 and 1966, they were basically the biggest thing in Peru since the Inca civilization. You know that song "Demolicion" that Wau y Los Arrrghs!!! made so popular? That was a cover of Los Saicos.
