    • Check out Chuckamuck from Berlin, Germany. Often described as the German Black Lips. Another band from Germany would be The Royal Flares, but i've only seen a flyer tellin' they're a 60s style garage band from Munich. So I can't tell a thing about them. And The X-Ray Harpoons from Bonn. I totally recommend their garage-psych scorcher Zombie Love.

Also worth to mention: Batman & Robin from Austria. Weird stuff.

    • One band from South Africa (The Make-Overs) was on Vol. 3, but that's it. Yes, it would be great to get some more bands from other parts of the world, as well (esp. Japan and NZ). I was just posting here about the European bands since this is, ya know, the European group.

I think the language barrier between Japan and the rest of the world is pretty huge. We have some members here from Japan, but no bands, I don't think. Still, even the Japanese members we have here have to be pretty fluent in English to participate, or they rarely ever visit the site.

    • Hi Kopper,

say, does the Hideout have any bands from Asia, Africa or Australia and New Zealand? I was just wondering, for Japan e.g. should have some garage punk going on, and Australia and New Zealand also (I mean, NZ has got the fantastic Flying Nun label, and Australia's got so many great bands...).

      Cheers, Doc

    • Yesterday I went through the first four volumes of the Hideout Comp Series and looked up where each band was from. Out of 88 bands, 39 are from Europe. Here's how they break down by country:

      England - 8

      Sweden - 5

      Germany - 4

      Italy - 4

      Scotland - 4

      France - 4

      Switzerland - 4

      Greece - 2

      Norway - 1

      Spain - 1

      Belgium - 1

      Belarus - 1

I guess that's not bad, but it also means that the USA is totally dominating this thing with 33.

I'm surprised that there aren't more bands from Spain and Belgium, not to mention Finland, Denmark, Austria, Ireland, etc.

I have not tabulated the bands who have been selected for Volumes 5 and 6 yet, so hopefully that will help fill in some of the gaps.

All I can say is if you haven't submitted a song yet, then what are you waiting for? Now taking submissions for Volume 7, due out (hopefully) by the end of the year. Click here for details.

      Thanks!

    • Greetings good people..

We are LOS BREAKDOWNS, a struttin' garage pop band from Nottingham, England who are signed to Spanish label Rock Indiana.

We dig RAMONES, PHIL SPECTOR, EDDIE COCHRAN, THE CLASH, CHEAP TRICk, TOM PETTY...y'know, the good stuff.

Anyway, we got a new album coming out in September called 'Kids Don't Wanna Bop Anymore'. We're going out in tour with Terrorvision in October, playing some large venues, and will be playing in Spain soon after.

Anyways, we're currently looking to play gigs ANYWHERE in the UK and in Europe (as long as it's worth the trip). We just love playing and wanna get our rock n roll out there.

You can check us out at the link below (lots of songs- try 'Sad But True' & 'Highschool' for starters, our next double A side).

If anyone can help, EMAIL US!!

      Best,

    • Singer/guitarist Jay Vee (ex VACANTS, CRUSHERS, DEATH VALLEY SURFERS) needs bass & drums for rockin' new combo JAY VEE & THE CARDINAL SINS!

A few songs already written, but hoping that with the right people some collaborative efforts'll surface.  Generally, influences include booze, romance and insanity.  Musically, this translates as garage punk, blues, r'n'b (the good kind), punk rock, surf, new wave, rockabilly, country, and assorted nuggets of tuneful psychosis.

Bands I'm digging at the moment: The Cramps, The Fabulous Wailers, King Salami & the Cumberland 3, Tom Waits, The Damned, The Sonics, Dan Sartain, Black Keys, Oblivians, Man or Astro-Man?, Mudhoney, New Bomb Turks, Hank Williams, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, Guana Batz, Throw Rag, Jon Spencer, The Dirtbombs, and many, many more.

      Previous bands can be heard at www.myspace.com/thevacants1 , www.myspace.com/crushersdestroy , and www.punkabilly.co.uk

If any of this sounds like your bag, read on!

      PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS:

Equipment ownership ESSENTIAL! Drummers must have own kit, bass players own amp etc.  You won't necessarily have to haul it to every rehearsal or gig, but it'll be needed at some point.

You MUST be committed.  When gigs or rehearsals are booked, they're booked. Simple as.  I'll be aiming to get tours (UK, Europe) together if all goes well, so make sure this whole music shebang is what you wanna do with yourself!

You MUST be able to rehearse in North/Central London, and be able to get around for gigs in the capital and elsewhere.

Age isn't important, so long as you're old enough to drink, and young enough to jump around onstage!

Talent isn't essential either: I'm not looking for virtuoso musicians here, just people with a good feel for their instruments and enough stage presence to compensate for any deficiencies in ability.

Got all that? Cool.  Now if you're still interested, drop me a line at crushersdestroy@hotmail.co.uk, ideally with a photo, but no worries if not.  Let me know what you're into (musically, at least for now!), and outline your own musical experience (again, not essential).  Right, now that's out of the way, all that's left to say is 'Rock & Roll, motherfuckers!'

    • Hi garagepunk family,

here we are: the Vagoos. We are four guys from germany/bavaria,
playing garagepunk, surf and psychedelic rock.

Yes, we are new here! It feels comfortable. Nice!
Check out our garagepunk-profile, listen to the shit and feel free to tell us what you think!

This summer we want to tour through france, spain and portugal. (august 7.-21.)
Now we are looking for venues we can play at ... attention! perhaps you are part of the game right now! If you are from France, Spain or Portugal perhaps you can give us some tips where we can try to organize a gig. You know some cool venues or places we can play at? You play in a band and want to share a gig with us?

we are going to bring our whole equipment, including PA and drums, so there is minimal work for the clubs etc
we have everything with us and we would play everywhere: inside or outside, in clubs or at festivals, on the street or at private parties.
it doesn.t matter. all we want is to play our songs and get some coins for fuel! You have an idea? Tell us!
we hope to hear from you soon...
abraços / muchos saludos / grosses bises

      greetings grom bavaria
      The Vagoos
