    • I figured from your letter that perhaps you were new to Bristol so I was just giving you some Info about some of the things that are happening here. I'll add you as a friend and we'll take it from there. If you want to go to Bath on the 4th then we might be able to give you a lift. Where do you live?

    • There are some things happening in Bristol but just not very often. There are a few bands. My band the Hi Class Joes play early British style Beat not unlike the Kaisers or the Big 3. Our singer Elmer used to organise regular once a month gigs at the Mothers ruin and the basement of the Crown in Saint Nick's market in town. He used to do it for the love of it,sometimes breaking even but mostly losing money. Then then reccession kicked in and he couldnt afford it anymore. He now puts on a free night at the Mothers ruin every month with just DJ's. He also has a band called Los Imbeciles who play Frat style Garage but they dont play too often. John the Mod puts on gigs down at the Lanes which is a bowling alley in Broadmead. He hads thee Vicars there recently. The Hi class Joes have a gig coming up in Bath on the 4th of June at the Royal Oak pub. I can let you know when more gigs are happening. There are also some good record fairs.

    • I don't know about any garage bands from that town, but I do know the Pipettes are from Bristol.  I loved them back when Rose and Becki were in the group; now I can't stand them because they've totally turned to shit.  Still, "We Are The Pipettes" is one of my all time favorite LPs.

    • http://www.pitxplorer.de/ for German rock listings.

In London for a not too expensive night out (at least it wasnt when I went all those years ago) try the Bull and Gate in Kentish Town. The Underworld in Camden is also cool if any decent bands are playing at the time. Camden Town is a cool part of the city but has turned into a fucking nightmare of tourists. It used to be a lot grubbier with more drugs but is now full of Japanses pop art.

For Amsterdam check out the Cave. It's small and cool and when I was there it was free from the usual stag night twats that crawl the city. The Paradiso sees some cool international bands but is only as good as the bands playing there.

Next time you visit Germany or if you are able to this time, make it over to the West, Berlin is cool but Germany has a lot else to offer. http://www.rheinkultur-festival.de/home.html that's a free festival in Bonn with a mediocre (as far as Garage punk goes) lineup. But in Essen there's usually a few cool things going on and in June there's the Ruhrpott Rodeo.

    • not specifically though there's plenty of diy distros around.  join some forums like mess and noise or small night in and perhaps ask the questions there...?

    • Clear Spot are good — regular as clockwork they send a statement at the beginning of the month detailing the previous month's sales. Soundflat Mailorder in Germany have always been very easy to deal with too. Neither pay upfront though, I doubt many do these days...

    • can anyone recommend any distributors or shops that will pay trade price upfront rather than on a 'sales or return' basis?

for Europe, Clearspot in Holland has been recommended.  has anyone on here dealt wit them?

    • Dj Greengoo (Moscow, Russia) –

drummer and founder of local garage/psych outfit The Cavestompers! and a memeber of various others cult and dangerous sects and organizations (Plastic Cave records/distro/booking, DiG! record store). At the same time he's an enthusiastic and dedicated record collector and dj. His favorite music is 60's garage beat and punk, freakbeat, psych which is usually blended with some fine selection of soul, funk, 50's r'n'r, r'n'b, doo-wop, blues, surf, sixties pop. Dj Greengoo's set usually includes some really obscure nuggets like soviet and eastern european beat, pop, surf and early 70's local dancebale fuzzy psych. Depending on the mood of the party there is a place for more fresh stuff from powerpop to early punk ,post punk, garage and mod revival from 70's till 00's coolest latest bands, including Russian ones.

In Moscow he’s been promoting and putting together a whole lot of sixties garage allnighters, festivals and parties for 5 years already. Hitting many famous Moscow clubs – IKRA, Solyanka, 16 tons, Krizis Zhanra, Mayak, Chinatown, MSPRKT, he also is a resident of AD Marginem’s alternative book-fairs, contemporary art biennale, museums night, played at underground weddings, in woods, abandoned factories and other weird spots. Dj Greengoo with his bag of dusty 45’s crossed the country many times spreading the disease while on tour in St.Petersburg (Stirka club), Tolyatti, Samara, Voronezh, Novosibirsk, Ryazan. In 2010 he played Black Label in Leipzig, Germany and did a trip to Ukraine playing in Odessa and Lviv.

Hits vs rarities / short vs long / old vs new / bees vs honey – get ready for some wild Russian action.

    • Thanx for the tips Lewis,

sure I'll take a look and a beer (I mean beers).

The palac akropoilis is a must visit - its a theatre, bar and restaurant, they have some good bands but it is an amazing place to hang out for beer and food, the interior is 1930's Czec esoteric - very bohemian.

      http://www.prague.net/palac-akropolis

Check the listings for a band called Black Mummy - a cool goth surf band from Praha who have a great reputation - I've seen em they are pretty damn good.

On another note, when you are having a look round be sure to pop into the Municipal House - Its an opera house and restuarant complex, but much of the interior is by Mucha and theres a great bar in there if you just want to pop in for a drink in bohemian let slightly decadent surroundings - its downstairs and is called the Ameriky Bar - and is all black marble and copper - very nice.

The Cubist Cafe and the Louvre are also great places to eat and drink and are not unreasonable
