For those of you who don't know, this is a podcast I do weekly on the Outlaw Radio Network, which is headed by Jahshie P (the host of "Outlaw Radio Chicago") and Shooter Jennings who has this as a subpage on his "Black Country Rock" website. The show is a "Southern-themed" musical hodgepodge ranging in the genres: classic honky tonk, '50's rockabilly, vintage bluegrass (Flatt & Scruggs, Stringbean), cowpunk (Hells Fire Sinners, Them Slack Jawed Sons Of Bitches, Flat Tires), psychobilly ( Hillbilly Casino, Crypt Creepers, Rumble Club), underground Southern rock (Guns Of Nevada, Polecat Boogie Revival, Joecephus & the George Jonestown Massacre), "Southern state rock 'n' roll" (Cooterfinger, Deadly Vibes, Hickoids, Porch Ghouls), and bands and performers who "fit the mold" (Southern Culture On the Skids, Junior Brown, the Tremors, Supersuckers, Drive-By Truckers, Jason & the Scorchers, Whiskeytown) plus tunes from purists like Willie Nelson, David Allan Coe, Steve Earle, Waylon Jennings, and Shooter himself. Playlists and past shows are archived at the website: http://www.blackcountryrock.org/hayridetohell/ and currently the show airs Thursday evenings at 8:00 EST. A chat room is available and open to all, but it isn't necessary to join in the conversation to listen. There is a podcast jukebox, and a download link is provided if you would like to subscribe. Hope it's something you Podunk Holler members will enjoy!

I saw them several times when I lived in MSP... the best was when they were on tour with the New York Dolls and a cool Boston band called The Charms.... and then there was the show at The Cabooze which was a blast... both would have been in the mid 2000s some where..

Photo was taken live at the Hootenanny July 2 2011 Irvine, CA
Last time I saw them was in Minneapolis, Mn at the Uptown Bar & Grill right before I moved south 16 years ago. It was great to see them again!

It's not out until September, but he's releasing it along with a sludge metal record, an experimental country record, and a Cajun concept album.....Crazy shit, all of it. But most of it is good. Unfortunately, this one is the exception. But I do love the name "cattlecore" that he made up to describe it.
July 19, 2011 7:10 PM CDT
Hellbilly is the last album i've got, not sure if I can stretch the genre to cattlemetal!
July 19, 2011 7:01 PM CDT
I think you nailed it.....or one of those horrid experimental albums John and Yoko used to do.

23 tracks of speed-metal cattle auctions? Sounds like Hank3's answer to Lou Reed's Metal Machine music.
July 19, 2011 5:34 PM CDT
Has anybody else here heard Hank 3's new "cattlecore" album? It's basically speed metal with cattle auctioneering over top. Overall, I love the concept but I'm not a big fan of the execution. If he had chosen to make this one song on an album, it would have been a great diversion, but by making it a 23 track album, it's overkill.

Thanks a lot for spreading the word both in your review and here.....Volume two should be out next month with a few cool surprises.

We have our cool GaragePunk compilations here at the Hideout. But for a cool free compilation of new rockin' hillbilly sounds check out the Southern Independent compilation put together by Shooter (son of Waylon) Jennings and Adam Sheets (a Hideout member) http://www.givememyxxx.com/ I recently reviewed the compilation in my column (along with the new Bloodshot Bill album, which also is bitchen.) http://steveterrell.blogspot.com/2011/07/terrells-tuneup-bloodshot-bill-plus.html

despite the fact that I have a lot of podcasts to catch up on last year's Gaslight Anthem and the Janelle Monáe record from 2010 keep getting some play from me. Everything else from last year only gets in my ears once and a while.

If i like something enough to purchase it, chances are I won't tire of it quickly.

Thrill seeking is fun. Some albums are great in the moment others become favourites. I have my favourite eras but I’ve traded mountains of albums over the years.

I keep my mp3 player loaded with newer music (2005-now) only.
That way the newest tunes don't get lost in the "shuffle"...

I stand by the statement that you guys all need to look into what is going on with surf in the Southeast right now. There is a 4th wave revival brewing. All of these bands, including my own, are really making a name for themselves.
Daikaiju
El Fossil
Necronomikids
Kill, Baby...Kill!
Monterreys
The Mystery Men?
and a hell of a lot of others that are slipping my mind at the moment...
