I love the individual touch a band/artist can add to a song. I think the Die Zorros album is a perfect example of this - I don't think any other band could make me think that Europes "Final Countdown" was such a cool song! Ah ha....well...there was a Cliff Simmons who was in the Blue Caps during the Be Bop A Lula days (found that out when I googled Gene Simmons and Be Bop A Lula in the same search). Also kept getting info about Gene Simmons and Vinnie Vincent(one of those later Kiss guys after they unmasked).

So when you say Gene Simmons has a version of Be Bop a Lula, are you talking about the Kiss musician or Jumpin' Gene Simmons of "Haunted House" fame?

Well I just looked at the trailer at indb http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1266029/ and it already looks like I prefer the NBC movie that came out sometime in the last ten years. The guy playing Lennon looks more like Pete Best. Have no idea if they embellished so I'd actually like to see this if it comes out on DVD. But the choice of actors already turns me off.

Anyone know anything about the Lennon ( early years ) bio pic ' Nowhere Boy ' ?

Once I heard 70s power pop (like in 1991 or something) I totally forgot that it once applied to groups like the Who and the Easybeats.

I've got tp side with Rod on this one. Eddie & The Hot Rods& DR. Feelgood are definitely Pub Rock. I saw Eddie & The Hot Rods at Max's in around 76. That's what they were being called. I did not start hearing the phrase "Power Pop" until the 70's and that would be the late 70's. A few bands of the genre I left out of my earlier post are Milk N Cookies,The Marbles, The Quick,& the Sneakers The best place to discover forgotten Power Pop Chestnuts is the Power Pop Label Radio Heartbeat. I have a book called Rare Records: Wax Trash and Vinyl Treasures by a guy named Tom Hibbert. It came out in 1982 and has a chapter on sixties power pop. Some of the early Pink Floyd singles (Arnold Layne, See Emily Play) and Les Fleur De Lys are considered examples.

I guess if you had started your forum as "I really like what I think are the original power pop bands, groups like the Who, Creation, Easybeats, and even the Byrds. Can anyone think of others?" I wouldn't have been so confused.

I'm happy for them to get something back and they are what they are. The new album is still underwhelming and I'm stuffed if David Fricke's review of the first comeback disc isn't way over the top. There's a Live at the Fillmore thing that rips along fairly well with lots of the original songs in the set list.

Having grown up in NYC I saw the original Dolls. They had more stage presence than any band I've ever seen, before or since. When the original band broke up, David & Syl carried on till late 1976 as "The Dolls" until David signed a solo deal with Blue Sky records & Syl signed with RCA. Instead of hiring another guitarist, they had a piano player. It was not the NY Dolls I remembered, but they were great.

I also happen to know Sylvain for a very long time, having played bass in his solo band & on his albums Sleep Baby Doll, & New York's Au Go Go.

You have to look at this from his point of view. Drugs broke up the Dolls. Everybody knows that, but aside from that simple fact, a lot of people do not realize that they sold their publishing. In other words, in all these years they made nothing off their legacy. Till now. Syl drove a cab. When I started playing with him, he had been installing carpet for a living.

Forget whether the original Dolls were cooler or not. I know how Syl struggled for years. I played gigs with him at little dive bars in LA that he clearly out-classed. To see him up on the big stage with a shiny new Gretsch Guitar, happier than a pig in shit is unbelievable. He gave so much to Rock N Roll, it's great to see him get something back.

Not even a whole day later and i picked up a new follower.
Was it because of my post on this forum? Who knows.
