The Ette's debut Shake the Dust was much better. CoCo and Susanna Hoffs definitely sound a lot alike, but the bangles comparison is only relevant to their earliest material. Don't want anyone to think there is a power trio version of "Eternal Flame".

Also, Thatcher's Children is pretty great. All of Billy's bands haven't exactly evolved-- but the latest with the MBE does splash a little water on the old man's face.

Only one disadvantage with having the pickups close to the strings is they can 'pull' the strings out of tune slightly due to the magnetic pull, but I dont seem to have had this problem yet......
What guitar do you use Joenzy? I find it works best on single coils, humbuckers get a bit 'heavy' but I guess it depends on the guitar, let me know what it sounds like...

yes thats a good point, 'hitting the strings hard' when you use a tube amp with a good overdrive pedal really effects the dynamics of the sound, gives a nice natural overdrive sound .Another cheap trick is to adjust your pickups to as near as you can to the strings, this will produce some good raw sounds too, then just hit an e chord and see what happens....... nah, you ain't gots to study that. studying music theory is subjective for me personally. even the Beatles weren't the best guitar players. it's what they did with what they had. arrangements and so on. what matters more than technicalities is in the art of your soul. you can play just one chord - but it's the way you play that chord. I'd listen to a guitar player that has heart and rawness and a certain amount of wild abandon over somebody that had a real slick sound and knows all the triads and what have yous. it's all about personal taste. just play, man. get lost. lose your mind. and hit those strings as hard as you can... croatoa said:

I've used a squire 15w a few times for a good punk sound, but those little tube fender champs sound way better, havent heard those little vox's, I tried a a small gretsch 5w tube the other day and it wasnt bad, its meant for blues but with my jag it was more punk, could be good for recording, but not loud enough with a brick handed drummer jailbird said:

This one's got everything, from maulers like "Baby Be Mine" to maybe my favorite ballad ever (with some of the best lead guitar I'll ever hear), "Around the Town," to knock-out novelties that are better than should be allowed (once again, with amazing lead guitar), "Do the Frog." Didn't the Professor come up with a way to recharge batteries to keep their radio running? Maybe you could apply the same technology (wasn't it Gilligan peddling on a crude bike attached to a generator of some kind?) to power your iPod, or your disc player. Anyone heard this yet? I'm halfway through the album and so far, quite impressed. Generally by album 3, most bands have either:
1.shot their wad and putzed out or
2. polished up and now sound way too commercial
So far Ive heard none of the above here, although I am sad that the Hunches are bowing out. My spidey senses tell me this will land on many best of lists for '09 and its only January fer chrissakes!
