I have been through many fuzz tone boxes over the years. Currently I use two on my pedal board. First is a Boss Hyperfuzz in the second setting which delivers a huge abrasive fuzz sound that is very thick with a lot of bottom end ala early Black Sabbath or early Fu Manchu. The second is a early 70's Ibanez Wau Fuzz which has been very beat up. None of the tone knobs work however the fuzz is blistering like an asthmatic mosquito and the wah is a low octave bass range number that delivers a very warped out sweep. Instead of the "wee-ahh" sound you get from a Crybaby it is more "woo-owww" If I punch the wah pedal while either fuzz is on pushing it all the way into the high frequency it acts as a boost and provides a brain-melting fuzz that is pretty punishing. I play an SG with a Rio Grande P-90 "fat bastard" pick-up and run it into an Orange Tiny Terror that drives a Marshall 4x10 and a Avatar 2X12. Its a relatively compact set up that is perfect for any of the club show we play.

Right now I'm reading "The Stranglers: Song By Song", an interview-style account of every Stranglers record ever recorded as commented by Hugh Cornwell. Frankly, it was a toss-up between this and the "Golden Brown" autobiography and I chose this because I'd rather hear him talk about his music than his childhood. There's still a lot of band and personal history discussed in the book, and I think Jim Drury did a good job steering the conversation towards all the interesting facets of the band's work.

If enough people are interested, (and if there's a slot available...) i'd like to do an instrumental podcast on a regular basis. I know we have the occasional Surfcast already, but i'd like to do a regular show featuring nothing but instro, and most Rock n Roll styles from the 50s up until now - so i'd be featuring some surf but more....

To give you an idea i would be featuring people like Link Wray, Lonnie Mack, Duane Eddy, The Ventures, The Shadows, the Spotnicks, bands from comps like Planetary Pebbles (Surfbeat Behind the Iron Curtain), the 60s / surf era right up to bands like Los Straitjackets, Laika and the Cosmonauts and current.

If you are interested in hearing such a podcast, reply to this post and if i get enough interest I will put together a "pilot" podcast and submit it to the powers that be..

Thanks Michael. I thnk I spoke to Jack about this before, and had no joy. There must be someone somewhere in the world that knows how these effects work, and how to repair them. I just gotta find that person! I put a notice on my homepage with tons of keywords, so hopefully I should get some good search engine hits, and someone in the know will find me. I'll let you know if I have any luck. Fingers and toes crossed...

HEEEELLLLLP! I have a real Vox problem.

I'm looking for schematics of the ACTUAL effects modules of the Starstream, and Grand Prix guitars (not the regular guitar wiring diagram). Do you think anyone actually made their own schematics? Apparently Vox didn't make schematics for the modules themselves, as they were just to be entirely replaced in the case anything went wrong.
Alternatively if anyone knows the individual V number for each individual effect, it would be very helpful!
