The Movement are a cool mod band from present. They're from Denmark, I saw them live at the Ruhrpott Rodeo last year and they were well worth seeing.

      Here's their website

Ahhhhh fuckin' Modz.  I was one '79 ish ....yeh  a revialist, powered by thee jam.  Quadraphenia movie's out.  Every dickhead Jimmy wannabe riding round gardens at drunk'n parties, wardrobes pushed outta bedroom windows, pill popping.... anyol'shit the pharmacists son could steal.... incuding cod liver oil capsules.

What turned me off mod was when God - Bo Diddley came to a city 12 miles away.  I and 2 friends went on scooterz.  (I expected the place to be full of suited coolsterz but nah those mods had no idea, other than thee who, quadrahenia and motown).  I shared Bo with greasy ol' long haired biker rockerz.  It still is the best live experience ever.   A small pub backroom and Bo backed by an eager young rock n' roll group.

I'd suggest checking out dutch mods -

      any q65 material http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgduSEG2gG8

de maskers - sensations in sounds album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dx168kpFAg

      and bo diddley.

      ....how do you embed vids?......

I remember seeing the Prisoners at a place in Croydon , London back in the mid 80s (Underground club) Fab, The Three O Clock were supporting I think...

some bands that started off as Psychobilly went kind of garage/punk The Vibes probably were the best of these doing covers old Pebbles clssics like "Hurricane Fighter Plane" , I'm in Pittsburgh", "double Decker Bus" ... so not mod then but hovering around that groove S'pose .

you might want to check out the circles, great band from the midlands, part of the music scene around 79/83 in the midlands where i grew up.

      http://youtu.be/95MDr7NTbJc

the photo on the back of the seven inch single for angry voices features a picture of the band and the crowd taken at the legendary lafayette night club in wolverhampton, i am there in that photo.

also the chords, squire, makin time, and the scene all great mod bands from back in the day.

still a thriving mod scene here in the midlands, dc fontana, are worth checking out, j60, the coopers and a superb small faces tribute, the small fakers.

The Sect were not mods as such but the original South London mods loved to see them live with their pure R&B sets and the Irish mods followed Them as an R&B band, again not mod as such but the music suited. Mods never really had their own bands they listened to R&B and take from anything thats cool! they had taste!

Artwoods and John's  Children , I agree with. I never thought of The Sect or Them as Mod , so much as hard R'n'B , but ,then ,  The Sect were all over the place. Funny thing , tho' , I heard some mod organizations hired The Sect and The Troggs for their events. Then comlained that they did'nt sound enough like their records....If they sounded any more like their records , now, they'd have to announce Winston Churchill's death between sets.

Absolutely. When The Creation played in New York , rumors abound that ex - Birds/Creation members , Ron Wood and Kim Gardner (Who , sadly , passed away before the gig.) were due to make guest appearances..

The Creation played Chicago the same night as The Stones. While rumors did'nt get around about Woodie turning up ,he's been known to do so.

The Birds have a great bit part in "The Deadly Bees".

I always considered The Insomniacs a mod-leaning garage band, too. Highly recommended (along w/ the Embrooks above):
