With all due respect to a dead man (a talented one at that), I think Jay's solo material kind of trailed off there at the end, although I liked Blood Visions. I just found his work with The Reatards to be superior. Your opinions?

I first got into his stuff with the Bad Times LP, so that's got a special place in my heart. But I'd have to go with the Reatards over the solo stuff. The Lost Sounds is pretty killer too.

I like it all but I have to go with the Reatards. It has more of that old Rock & Roll feel if ya know what I mean.

No matter how much I like Reatards I tend to listen more to the solo stuff.

"I get Nervous" might be his best song though.

I haven't heard much of his solo records, but yeah. I'd also go with you that The Reatards were better than his solo career. They just worked together so well and created such great music. It's sad it had to end that way, but yeah...

And yeah, just like you all said, The Reatards can't be compared with Led Zeppelin. Whole different band, whole different time, whole different style.

If you are comparing Jay Reatard to Zepplin, I assume you just saw Jay's hair and didn't listen to the music...it sounds NOTHING like led zep.

Led Zep is a very bizarre comparison to make... each to their own i guess.

i always heard the reatards/jay reatard name kicking around but never checked them out bar one or two songs. then he played here in Dublin and i planned on going but work got in the way. his Dublin gig was filmed you can find it here http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFB5AE667F4A17327 and i watched it over and over, loved him ever since. got Watch Me Fall and then worked backwards. i prefer his solo stuff mainly because The Reatards is the stuff i was into in my early 20's and now i'm 30 and appreciate Jays ear for a melody. It's all great but i don't think his solo stuff lacks anything.

I prefer his solo stuff. More depth, more melodies, more dimensions.

Agreed.  The Reatards was full on rock n roll and punk.  The solo stuff, especially at the end, got a little too melodic for me.

I pretty much enjoy it all for different reasons. If i want straight up raw rock and roll it's the reatards all the way but i find his song writting got a little better as a solo artist. My favorite song is 'Night of Broken Glass'.

Even his last album was abit lacking but i can still listen to the whole thing from begging to end.

Also, Lost Sounds is pretty fucking sweet.

I agree, there is something on a primal, gut level that doesn't catch my attention as much with his solo material, which isn't to say its not as good. I know on his solo work he was really getting into some more varied influences like The Clean, Galaxie 500, Wire, etc.

Reatards, definitely. I like his solo stuff, but it just doesn't have the same punch and grit.
