List them!
List them!
I saw Becky Lee and Drunkfoot play in Melbourne a couple of years ago, amazing show! Can't think of any other one-woman bands though..
There's Margaret Doll Rod , still performing under that name , with a guitar/drums set up , often Bluesier than she was with "Dem Dell Rods" as Andre called 'em.
Honkitonkioke , From NYC (?) . She sings Country standards , with an overhead projector , using drawings on clear plastic like puppets....You'd have to see it. Words fail me.
Did anyone mention the Late , Great Cordell Jackson ? The first woman to own and operate her own studio , before Bonnie Guitar. Very seldom played with a band at all. Her solo live show was a wonder to behold. Fiery , fiercely independent and FUN. GREAT INSTRUMENTALIST , SINGER AND SONGWRITER , And , a great lady , besides....Look for "Live in Chicago" on Bugout Records.
Barbara Lynn sometimes plays solo . Do I have to tell you it's great ?
There's more. Gotta think of 'em. You're asking a man to THINK? Ohhhh, it's gonna be a long night.
I had a one woman band group on facebook, but then some asshole from the one man band group accused me of stupid BS. so I deleted the group.

I once saw Theoretical Girl in New Cross once and she was excellent.
Colleen Green! I can't say enough good things about her.
These people need to be heard on all broadcast media!
Chris , that's very sexist , saying they should be on BROAD - cast......what ? Oh , I'm sorry . Forget I said anything.
You weren't hijacked by the Modern Parents, were you?
Yeah , Chris , I was . But , Sid The Sexist and the lads came around and intervened.
Now I'm in the gutter , puking Newcastle Brown Ale and the spiciest curry they had at that Indian place....Mind , I only had one taste of it.
IT'S GOOD TO BE FREE.

I thought Tarquin would have sorted Malcolm & Cressida out.
WELL , I THOUGHT SO , TOO , BUT , TARQUIN WALKED IN ON MALCOLM AND THE LADY FROM HIS FEMINIST CLUB HAVING TANTRIC SEX , AND , HE'S BEEN IN INTENSE THERAPY ,EVER SINCE.
I missed this thread the first time around. Anyway, Molly Gene simply must be included in the list:
Shes's dangerous. I live in Chicago , and I have'nt heard anyone work a Blues like that , here , since Honeyboy Edwards died.
Haven't had a chance to see her yet, unfortunately. She tours relentlessly, though, so it shouldn't be long.
Thanx for letting me know about Molly Gene, Joe!!! Gotta keep an eye out if she ever tours up this way!
I'm a one woman band. I've been doing the guitar and kick drums thing in the Bay Area for four years now. Haven't had a lot of luck finding places to play, though. So I'm kind of an enigma.
Paisley Terror , It seems like the availability of venues to play live music has been getting shifted around in the Bay Area. I may be mistaken , but , whenever I'm down there , it seems like a few places have closed and maybe some new ones have turned up. Do you ever try San Jose ? I've only been to San Francisco , Berkely and Oakland in the past 15 years or so....It seems like San Jose is picking up , but , as a "One Man Band" (Though I don't call myself that...) , I understand , if you do your own thing , it's harder to find an audience. But , they're out there. You may want to start with house parties , or even busking on the street , if you can.

Yeah, I think I'm going to start busking and playing outside of SF/Oakland. It's mostly my fault, though - I don't have good recordings which makes it hard to book shows. I'm working on a record this week so hopefully I'll be playing more shows soon!
KimPaisleyTerror ,
Yeah , I guess The Bay Area is more open about busking. In Chicago , you generally need a license , and you need to SUCK. Esp. in the subway stations , whenre the money is. But , I'm sure , if you do that , and some parties , you'll meet people who can help you get club dates. Do you know Russell Quan? He's a very nice guy. He might have some advice...
John.
