who do you think has the best country twang sound...i know theres Duane Eddy, Merle Travis, and Chet Atkins....but besides them, who else? this includes electric, acoustic and lapsteel guitars.

some of my all time favorites are:

      johnny paycheck-the cave

the louvin brothers-...just about any of their stuff

eddie noack- psycho, and a lot of his other stuff is great

leon payne- just about anything of his( he also wrote lost highway for hank and psycho for eddie noack)

Try anything with Grady Martin paying guitar on it, it bridges country, jazz, western swing, rockabilly in that particular early '50s way.

I wouldn't call Duane Eddy country twang.....big bottom end guitar yes but not country twang.

The ones you mention are great. Louvin Brothers, great harmonies. All the artists you mention I love on vinyl. Play them alot. Junior Brown heck yeah. I love his "Guit-Steel Blues" song. Amazingly twangy.

Wayward mentioned Lefty. Gotta have Lefty.

Glad I found this thread. Hoping to meet others who love the ol twang of country.

Exactly , There's so many....But , Dave Dudley's best records had a great boss twang sound. I forget the guy's name , but he was badass. Also , Del Reeves' biggest rockin' Country hits.

A LOT of George Jones Rockabilly and later Country hits twanged like Hell.

If I remember right, Red Sovine co-sang that...Speaking of which, Red could really do some honky tonk singin' pre-"Teddy Bear" era (In other words, before most of his albums became just storytelling set to music).

Good picks so far. For some reason I've always thought Ray Price's voice is just perfect twang on "Crazy Arms". Lefty Frizzel's got a hell of twang too. For some younger guys I'd say Dwight Yoakam and Wayne "The Train" Hancock have got it.
