So what does everyone use for stopping or preventing the spread of rust on your rods? I've used POR-15 but was wondering if there's anything better out there.

I think primered cars look unfinished, lazy and unattractive. Lazy because it looks like you can't be arsed to finish the project and it goes against the basic premise that Harry Westergaard aimed for: Making the car better than stock. I think a rod or custom looks better painted, even if it's a good late model colour.
Primer is porous, so stopping the rust from coming through is going to be impossible. You need to use sealer primer or flattened paint. However, if you are wanting the raw look most of us use Gibbs Oil to treat the metal.

And an odd one, if you have a primered car or truck and want to get that clean look back, Lemon Pledge if its still around, works like a charm. Plus the oils in it help prevent surface rust.
