There aren't any specialty stores left.  NYC has a few good stores with good selection, although not always the best prices. It's a good place to buy LPs, not 7"s.

Must-see would be Academy Records Annex on n 6th St in Williamsburg.

      Other possibilities-

Rockit Scientist (33 St. Mark's Manhattan)

      Small but decent:

      Co-op 87, 87 Guernsey St Brooklyn

      Permanent Records, Franklin St Brooklyn

If you're looking for CDs, try Kim's 124 First Avenue Manhattan

      Hi guys!

Any info on good record stores? 60s: garage, r n'b, soul, exotica etc?

I won't be there, but there are always good djs. It's usually a packed house of alcoholic women looking to get laid.

depends on what you're looking for, but there are tons of vintage stores in NYC.  Coming from France, it might actually be cheap for you (!)... Besides the ones Charles mentioned, there's Stella Dallas on N 6th in Williamsburg.  It's pretty big and not too expensive.  There's also Guvnor's on 5th Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn (south of Williamsburg a bit).

Nothing is cheap in NYC.  Everything is overpriced.  For cheap stuff you have to leave the city and go somewhere else.

There are some vintage clothing shops that have OK prices, like Metropolis in Astor Place and Mystery Train in Williamsburg.

In Williamsburg there are a couple places that might have something good, but they get picked through so often that you never know what you'll find.  Beacon's Closet and Buffalo Exchange are really well known second hand clothing shops.  Walking down and around Bedford Ave there are random clothing shops.  I actually hate shopping for clothes, so I do it once a year and it's usually on the internet, so I'm not an expert on it.

There are some really great vintage clothing shops that carry really cool shit, but the prices are insane.

Maybe someone else on here knows of more places to check out.

Yeah, I'll most likely be at that show.  Union Hall is pretty nice.  It's in a semi-posh neighbourhood that is a little hard for me to get to by train, so I very rarely go there, but I've played and seen some great shows there.  They have bocce on the ground floor, which is good for killing time if you get to the show too early.

The food isn't good and it's expensive.  It's cool for kids, but it's not really something your going to enjoy as an adult.  That company owns 3 places in Manhattan: Jekyll & Hyde Club, Jekyll & Hyde Pub, and The Slaughtered Lamb.

I went to the Slaughtered Lamb once, just to see what it was like, and it angered me just how bad it was.  haha

I have friends who have gone to the other places and say they're just as bad.

If you REALLY want to check it out to have a weird story, then go for it, but I'd honestly skip those places.

If you want to buy old records or old musical gear you need to go outside of NYC.  Seriously.  They cost an arm and an ear in the city.  If you've got serious money to burn, then I'll tell you some places.  But honestly, I have to leave the city to buy that kind of stuff.

they're totally different. botanica is a pretty low key 60's soul affair. motor city is more of a ludlow street garage/punk bar hang. both fun.

I'll be gone 9th to 12th of June, so we can meet up before I leave.

The first issue of Bananas I wrote on Crif Dog.  Second issue I wrote about Honey Chiles, which closed.
