All these surf bands back in the day were playing and recording the same songs over and over. often in very similar style. But some versions are totally different. I'm gonna make some definition of well chosen surf songs.

Miserlou - Dick Dale, The Surfaris, The Astronauts, The Lively Ones, The Trashmen, The Beach Boys.

Must say Dick Dale is the winner. Most extreme fasted, the piano loop in the end,fucking perfect.

I would say The Surfaris came # 2 but Beach boys lay on the bottom.

 

Pipeline - The Chantays, The Ventures, The Astronauts, Dick Dale(with Steve Ray Waughn)

The Chantays version is the best version of my opinion but The Ventures take it gently. The version with Dick Dale and the fuckhead Steve Ray Waughn is a disaster.

 

Baja - Al Casey, The Astronauts, The Lively Ones, Jack Nitzsche

It's a hard one. All versions are amazing but I think The Astronauts have the win.

 

Batman Theme - Nelson Riddle, Neal Hefti, The Ventures, Link Wray

Also a hard one. But I think The Ventures is the best.

 

Moon Dawg - The Gamblers, The Ventures, Davie Allan, The Beach Boys, The Surfaris

I like the Davie Allan version most myself but they are all great.

I really enjoy The Shadows and think their version of Apache is terrific but I wonder who started putting that sort of sound effect (pick scratch with delay) in there that wasn't on The Shadows single, the Ventures?  I love that bit!

Bobby Fuller's live version of Miserlou is pretty killer diller.  I think it was on the Cowabunga box.

The Trashmen, "The Bird" That's it. lol

Can't be complete without adding some songs by The Atlantics!  I won't name a specific song, cause they are all pretty cool.
