How about Violent Femmes, Neutral Milk Hotel, or Can Kickers? Some of Dan Bern's stuff. This is not something I'm an expert in, but I know it's out there.

I do think that those bands are a completely different form of "folk punk" than the others in the postings. I really do like Johnny Hobo though.

Not sure if they're the same as the above types of bands, but there's a lot of good newer folk punk bands I'm into. Mischief Brew, Saw Wheel, Evan Greer, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains to name a few...there are lots of different styles and types of folk punk, but hopefully you'll like some of them.

Isn't Shutdown 66 like that? I use to have it downloaded. I want to hear Paul Messis suggest some tracks.

Also, the NEW ENGLAND TEEN SCENE series specializes in the moody folk punkers, I'm thinkin'...

What about Beau Brummels and the Searchers? They may not be very moody. The Zombies are more moody but less folkie and more jazzy.

This might be a good place to start: http://www.last.fm/music/The+Dovers/+similar Also, just listening to The Dovers' station on Last.fm might pull up some others that you may not have heard yet.
